Western Province finished the Currie Cup regular season unbeaten after their match against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday evening was abandoned at half time with the Cape Tonians leading 34-7.

Heavy rain and lightning delayed kickoff and by the time the players took to the field the pitch was water-logged.

The continuous rain and slippery underfoot conditions didn't do much to stop Western Province, though as they scored four tries in the first and only forty minutes before the match was abandoned due to the extreme weather.

The visitors took advantage of a Matthys Basson yellow card to get their first five-pointer - via a penalty try.

The Blue Bulls hit back through Ruan Steenkamp, but that was all the hosts were able to manage.

Jacobus van Dyk, Sergeal Petersen and Jaco Coetzee all crossed the line without the Bulls scoring to cement their team's place at the top of the Currie Cup table.

Next weekend's semifinal will see a repeat of the fixture as Western Province will host the men from Pretoria in one of the semifinals while the second-place Sharks will host the Golden Lions in the other.
