Uganda Rugby Cranes key flyhalf Ivan Magomu has resumed training with the team ahead of a Rugby Gold Cup/World Cup qualifier match against Morocco on Saturday.
The technical team, headed by head coach John Duncan, last week suspended Magomu ahead of the game against Tunisia.
He opted to play in a local Coronation Sevens tournament for his club against instructions to all national players.
"I am very sorry for what happened last week. It will never happen again. I am now focused [on] working hard because playing for the national team is something which means a lot to me," Magomu told KweséESPN.
Assistant coach Robert Seguya confirmed that Magomu is back at training. "He has apologisedto the team and he is training with the rest of the team. Let us wait and see if he will break into the starting team because competition among the players is huge," he said.
"We want to pick up yet another win against Morocco on Saturday. We are still battling to finish on a high after being worried of relegation earlier because we had lost the first two games," added Seguya.
Magomu was also part of the sevens team that took part in the World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, USA where Uganda finished 19th out of the 24 featuring nations. He also played at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.
While Magomu is likely to return to the starting lineup, the team will miss Byron Oketayot, who will be sitting the Uganda Advanced Certificate for Education (UACE) mock examinations.
Uganda Rugby Cranes moved to third place on the log with five points after their 67-12 victory over Tunisia last weekend.
Namibia, who humbled Zimbabwe, maintained their lead with 20 points. Kenya, who have won all their three games, have 12, while Tunisia remain on four. Zimbabwe and Morocco have three points each.
The champion of the Africa Rugby Gold Cup will earn direct qualification for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, while the second-placed team will battle through the repechage competition in France. Germany, Canada and Hong Kong have already qualified for the repechage.
