Tokyo 2020 will always be the Olympics where Tom Daley won his gold medal, but his time in Japan will also be remembered for his knitting skills.

Daley, a four-time Olympic diver from Great Britain, won the 10-meter synchronized diving competition on July 26, having stitched together a winning sequence alongside Matty Lee. With Daley having made his debut at Beijing 2008, the feat in the Tokyo Aquatics Centre marked the culmination of his 13-year chase for an Olympic gold medal.

But he was back in the headlines again just six days later, when he was spotted knitting a purple creation in the stands during the women's 3-meter springboard final on Sunday. He later said on his Instagram account @madewithlovebytomdaley that he was making a sweater for his friend's French bulldog. A couple of days after the original post, he was seen receiving some yarn in the stands so he could keep working.

And this Thursday, Daley revealed one of his new creations: a Team GB cardigan. "When I got to Tokyo, I wanted to make something that would remind me of the Olympics to look back on in the future. I designed a pattern for the colour work that would signify everything about these games!

"On the back I went for a classic Team GB logo, the shoulders have a flag and GBR on them. For the front I wanted to keep it simple and I tried my best to embroider TOKYO in Japanese!"

With his knitting Instagram page now up to a million followers, Daley said he wanted to use the opportunity to raise some money for The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of his late father, Robert.
