Bruins' Patrice Bergeron returns but Maple Leafs extend series with win

BOSTON -- Bruins center Patrice Bergeron was back on the ice for Game 5 of Boston's first-round playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs after missing the previous game with an undisclosed injury.

The Maple Leafs extended the series with a 4-3 win Saturday. The Bruins lead the series 3-2 with Game 6 back in Toronto on Monday at Air Canada Centre.

Bergeron participated in the morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena and said he was optimistic but had to sell it to the medical staff. Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy thought Bergeron "looked good" during the skate.

"He made it through today's game healthy,'' Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said the game. "We always want to see how they are in the morning. I don't anticipate there being any issues going into Game 6.''

After totaling 30 goals and 33 assists during the season, Bergeron had five assists in the first three games of the series. He did not get a point in Saturday's loss.
