Jared Vanderaa: I hope Moyo's ready for my striking

American Jared Vanderaa is undaunted by the boxing pedigree of Elvis Moyo, insisting the Zimbabwean veteran should be worrying about his Muay Thai.

The heavyweights will collide on the main card of EFC 73 at Sun City in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday night.

Vanderaa (6-3) respects Moyo's (7-5) credentials in the ring, with 'The Bomber' boasting the World Boxing Association All Africa Heavyweight crown on his CV among other accolades.

However, 'The Mountain' backs what he is bringing into the Hexagon.

"This is MMA - I hope he's ready for my striking and Muay Thai," Vanderaa tells KweséESPN.

"Moyo is a big, strong, powerful guy.

"I respect anyone who steps in with me. He's talented and has good experience."

Vanderaa, who trains at Team Quest in Temecula, California, is expected to have a clear advantage on the ground as a wrestler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt.

But he feels equipped to handle Moyo's dangerous hands after sparring with the likes of MMA legend Dan Henderson and UFC power punchers 'Similin' Sam Alvey and Dominick Reyes during his camp.

"Dan comes in and spars every week with me.

"I've got Sam Alvey and Fernando Gonzalez (Bellator MMA welterweight) working with me ahead of this fight to mimic the boxing I will see September 8th.

"We brought in a few others recently as well like former TUF contestant Joe Stevenson.

"I feel very ready," says the 25-year-old, who is a decade younger than Moyo.

Vanderaa maintains his confidence remains high despite entering the bout on the back of two defeats, having won his previous five fights in a row.

He controversially dropped a split decision to ex-champion Andrew van Zyl on his EFC debut in December 2017 before suffering a unanimous decision loss to Vernon Lewis on short notice at Legacy Fighting Alliance 35 in March.

"My confidence is as strong as ever," Vanderaa says.

"I took that fight [against Lewis] on very short notice and tested myself.

"I am a fighter. Anyone who wants some can come get some.

"I'm always making adjustments; you need to remain as balanced as possible."

Moyo returned to winning ways with a decision win over Nico Yamdjie in his last outing in November 2017.
