Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua, Volkan Oezdemir to fight July 22

A light heavyweight bout between former champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir will headline UFC Fight Night on July 22 in Hamburg, Germany.

UFC officials announced the 205-pound main event on Monday. The fight was originally supposed to take place next month in Chile, but it was postponed due to issues outside the cage for Oezdemir.

According to a report by Brazilian news site Combate, Oezdemir, 28, is unable to travel to Chile as he deals with a felony battery charge in South Florida. The charge stems from an alleged incident at a bar in Fort Lauderdale last summer.

The case did not prevent Oezdemir from challenging Daniel Cormier for the UFC's light heavyweight championship in January. Oezdemir lost that fight, which took place in Boston, via second-round TKO.

Originally from Switzerland, Oezdemir (15-2) had won five in a row prior to losing to Cormier. His is 3-1 overall in the UFC.

Rua (25-10), 36, hasn't fought since March 2017. He is riding a three-fight winning streak.

ESPN ranks Oezdemir and Rua the Nos. 5 and 10 light heavyweight fighters in the world, respectively. The UFC Fight Night event will take place at Barclaycard Arena.
