Robbie Lawler set to take on Rafael dos Anjos on Dec. 16

Former UFC champions Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos will meet in a five-round welterweight main event on Dec. 16 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, per UFC officials.

The 170-pound contest will headline UFC Fight Night at Bell MTS Place.

Lawler (28-11) is a former welterweight champion. He surrendered his title to current champ Tyron Woodley in June 2016 but has since rebounded with a decision win over Donald Cerrone in July.

The 35-year-old defended his title twice before losing to Woodley in fight of the year candidates against Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit. Lawler fights out of Southern Florida, under striking coach Henri Hooft.

Dos Anjos (27-9) is also a former champion, at the 155-pound lightweight division. The Brazilian elected to move up in weight last year after back-to-back losses to Eddie Alvarez and Tony Ferguson.

Since moving up, dos Anjos is 2-0, including a one-sided submission victory over Neil Magny at UFC 215 last month.

ESPN.com ranks Lawler and dos Anjos the Nos. 3 and 9 welterweights in the world. The winner of the December matchup could be in line for a title shot against Woodley, who is rehabbing a shoulder injury.
