A featherweight title fight between defending champion Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar will headline UFC 218 on Dec. 2 in Detroit.
UFC officials confirmed the 145-pound championship fight to ESPN on Tuesday. The pay-per-view event will take place inside Little Caesars Arena.
Holloway (18-3) will seek his first UFC title defense and 12th consecutive win. The 25-year-old Hawaiian claimed the title by knocking out all-time great Jose Aldo in the third round at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro.
Holloway's last loss was to current lightweight champion Conor McGregor in August 2013. McGregor has praised Holloway's title run at 145 pounds, and McGregor even entertained the idea of a potential rematch.
Edgar (22-5) is a former lightweight champion and two-time featherweight title challenger. He is looking to become just the fourth fighter in UFC history to win titles in multiple weight classes, joining McGregor, BJ Penn and Randy Couture.
Fighting out of Toms River, New Jersey, Edgar's last title bid came against Aldo at UFC 200 in July 2016. He lost that fight via unanimous decision.
The UFC 218 co-main event will feature heavyweights Alistair Overeem (43-15) and Francis Ngannou (10-1).
