UAB promotes assistant Robert Ehsan to head coach

UAB has hired assistant Robert Ehsan as its new head coach.

"We are excited to announce Robert Ehsan as the new leader of the UAB Men's Basketball program," Blazers athletic director Mark Ingram said in a statement. "Rob has been an integral part of the resurgence of UAB Basketball, and he emerged as the clear-cut choice to be our head coach after an exhaustive, national search that included candidates from all corners of the basketball world."

Ehsan, 33, has been an assistant in the program under Jerod Haase for the past four seasons. He has been elevated after Haase left for Stanford late last month.

Ehsan was previously an assistant at Virginia Tech and Maryland.

"I have been fortunate to hone my craft with coaches like Gary Williams, Seth [Greenberg] and Jerod Haase," Ehsan said in the statement. "It will be a natural step to now lead our very talented team to continued growth. I have been honored to be a part of the Blazer family and this program of tradition as we build another era of success and great pride for UAB Basketball."
