Adam Scott is confident of making a title run at the US PGA Championship if he can continue the solid putting display from last week's World Golf Championships event.
The Australian world No.17 has had a respectable season, finishing inside the top 15 nine times from 14 events, but without showing the form that yielded a Masters win and an 11-week stint as world No.1 in previous years.
But 37-year-old Scott showed flashes of brilliance at the WGC-Bridgestone in Ohio last week, ranking eighth in the field for driving distance with an average tee shot of 311.3 yards and 31st for putting on greens reached in regulation.
After several days of hard work on the driving range at PGA Championship host Quail Hollow in North Carolina, Scott is confident of making a run at the year's final major if he can maintain his form on the greens.
"My putting last week was good enough to win here," Scott told AAP on Wednesday.
"My putting is solid and that's the most important thing for me; to walk out onto the greens confident. And I have been confident."
Scott has a creditable record from 16 visits to the PGA Championship, including a third place in 2006 among two top-fives and four top-10s.
He also owns a third, two top-10s and five top-25s from nine starts at the Wells Fargo Championship - the US PGA Tour event held at Quail Hollow.
The Gold Coast native says the 7600-yard Quail Hollow course in North Carolina suits his eye.
"There's no reason why I can't get going up the leaderboard with a few good holes here," Scott said.
"This is a driver's course and a ball striker's course. I think that plays to my advantage."
Scott joins world No.7 Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Cameron Smith, Rod Pampling, Scott Hend and Stuart Deane in the Australian contingent at Quail Hollow.
