Messi, 36, has since contributed with six goals and four assists in four games to earn his first MLS Player of the Month award.

Miami coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino said he is not surprised with Messi's form.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's MLS clash against the New York Red Bulls, Martino said: "Messi can move everywhere on the pitch, he is the best footballer in the world and a great goalscorer.

"We are no longer playing so often so that is why Messi is recovering his form."

Miami are on a four-game unbeaten run and lead the Eastern Conference table with 21 points in 11 games.
