LIVE Transfer Talk: Manchester United pull ahead of Chelsea in Moussa Dembele chase

The coronavirus pandemic has made the summer transfer window uncertain, but here are the new rumours floating around Europe's big leagues and beyond.

TOP STORY: United confident of landing Dembele

Following the suggestion on Monday that Chelsea were edging closer to a move for Moussa Dembele, the Daily Star now reports that Manchester United are stepping up their own efforts to sign the ex-Celtic forward.

The Star says Dembele prefers a move to Old Trafford and that the Reds are increasingly confident of landing the £60 million-rated Lyon striker.

United have reportedly been tracking Dembele for a year and consider him the ideal replacement for Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea are also in the hunt, but United CEO Ed Woodward is poised to make a move in an attempt to lure him to Manchester.

Dembele had scored 22 goals in all competitions this season before the coronavirus pandemic saw Ligue 1 decide to bring the competition to a premature end.

Lyon have missed out on European qualification, which means it should be easier for would-be suitors to exploit the French club's situation and sign Dembele.

23.00 BST: That will do it for the latest edition of our LIVE Transfer Talk blog. We hoped you enjoyed following along with us and remind you to check back shortly for the latest transfer rumours, reports and completed deals. Goodnight!

22.10 BST: Man United to move for young Argentine midfielder?

Italian outlet TuttoMercato claims that United have made an enquiry about 19-year-old Velez Sarsfield midfielder Thiago Almada. The attacking midfielder, has a €25 million release clause, but the outlet suggests that United are trying to get a deal done for around €18m. The Under-20 Argentina international has been a regular with Velez for two seasons now, producing five goals and two assists in 25 games this season.

With Paul Pogba's future with the club uncertain, United could use a long-term replacement for the Frenchman, but Almada would likely need a few years before he would be ready for Old Trafford.

21.28 BST: Sticking with Spurs for a moment... what does the goalkeeping situation look like at Tottenham in the long-term?

Hugo Lloris is now 33 and after missing much of the season with injury, Tottenham knows it needs an upgrade to inconsistent backup Paulo Gazzaniga. With that La Voix du Nord, via SportWitness, believes that Lille's Mike Maignan could be the answer. The report believes the 24-year-old could be North London bound as Spurs "prepare the succession' of Lloris.

The 2018-19 Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, Maignan would reunite with former goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos if he moved to Spurs. Hmmm...

20.37 BST: Tottenham will not allow record signing Tanguy Ndombele to leave, writes The Mirror.

Signed from Lyon last summer for £55 million, Ndombele has struggled at White Hart Lane, even losing his starting place under Jose Mourinho. With recent rumours linking the France international with Barcelona, there has been a lot of discussion about whether this will be the 23-year-old's last season in London.

The Mirror, though, says that Ndombele will be given another chance to prove his worth, evident by Mourinho wrongly breaking isolation rules during the coronavirus shutdown to work with the Frenchman.

19.52 BST: QPR could move for Chelsea youngster Ike Ugbo, according to The Sun.

The 21-year-old striker, who has been loaned out four times from Stamford Bridge, is fresh off a 13-goal season in Holland's second tier with FA Roda. Ugbo, who scored bushels of goals and won many a trophy with Chelsea's youth sides, has reportedly caught the attention of QPR and League One toppers Bristol City.

19.03 BST: Liverpool and Red Bull Salzburg did business in January, with Takumi Minamino moving to Anfield for a bargain £7.25 million.

The two teams could renew acquaintances again this summer, with Tuttosport, via the Daily Mail, suggesting Liverpool have entered the race for Salzburg youngster wiz kid Dominik Szoboszlai. The 19-year-old Hungarian is regarded as one of brightest young midfielders in Europe and is also being linked with Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan.

Szoboszlai, who has racked up four goals and seven assists this season, featured twice for Salzburg against Liverpool this season in the Champions League.

18.17 BST: Spanish outlet Marca claims Valencia could move for Mexico international Cesar Montes.

The paper suggests that the 23-year-old Monterrey defender has been scouted by Los Che and is currently atop the club's scouts' list of defensive targets. A starter in Liga MX since he was 18, Montes could be the latest El Tri star to make the jump to Europe, following the likes of Hirving Lozano, Diego Lainez and Edson Alvarez in recent years.

Montes is not a sure thing for Valencia, as the report also lists Ajax and Porto -- who have a long history with Mexican players -- as potential suitors.

17.30 BST: Barcelona and Manchester City could have the perfect swap deal on the cards.

16.17 BST: Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Gareth Bale and Philippe Coutinho but they're probably more likely to land a player like former Chelsea star Bertrand Traore, says Footmercato.

Traore moved to Lyon for £9m after a loan spell at Ajax but is now expected to leave because the club failed to seal Champions League football.

Of course, Newcastle don't have Europe to look forward to either but they could have a massive cash injection from their Saudi Arabia-backed takeover which would lead to some hefty wages.

15.38 BST: Manchester City want €80m for Leroy Sane, while Bayern are only willing to part with €40m given his contract expires in 2021.

However, Sky Germany reports that City have "concrete" interest in Bayern winger Kingsley Coman. City, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all registered their interest in the 23-year-old and he could move on if Sane arrives.

A swap deal seems ideal, though we could also see left-back David Alaba being included into the bargain if Bayern really want to land Sane.

14.49 BST: Manchester United could let Paul Pogba go this summer but would likely want a swap deal to include a player like Aaron Ramsey or Paulo Dybala.

14.17 BST: Werder Bremen attacker Milot Rashica has been linked with Liverpool, but could end up at RB Leipzig if the Reds land Timo Werner.

Rashica, 23, has a €38m release clause in his contract, with Bild claiming that Leipzig are preparing a €20m offer if they lose Werner.

Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche told Bild: "Milot is interesting. But there are many other interesting players. Basically, we are of course always concerned with our future squad. But that's still far away, our focus is on the resumption of the league on Saturday.

"Afterwards, we'll see what conditions prevail and what opportunities we have, so we can deal with the topic in more concrete terms."

13.19 BST: FC Basel defender Eray Comert is a target of Arsenal, according to Fanatik.

Comert, 22, has been linked with Galatasaray but the Gunners could turn to him instead of RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano, as his pricetag is way more achievable.

12.56 BST: Is it time for Liverpool fans to get excited about the prospect of signing PSG striker Kylian Mbappe?

Probably not, but Le10 Sport reports that manager Jurgen Klopp reached out to Mbappe's father, Wilfried, last month and the 21-year-old was "flattered" by the club's interest.

12.08 BST: Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Betbatov has been speaking to Betfair about Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. And United fans might be a little unhappy with his opinion.

"I don't know if now is the right time for him to go to Manchester United, I have mentioned it before, I have my doubts here because at United there's Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James," he said.

"It's good to have competition for the team but I would imagine if he moves to a new place he would want to play every game, but rotation is a common thing now in football. From that point of view, you can't guarantee a player will play, but I think we need to go with that assumption, big money and he would like to play. For me, he is going to choose the team that he knows he is going to play. Not to move and do nothing because that is going to stop his development and that why I think it maybe better for him to stay at Dortmund for one more year, why not?"

11.47 BST: Manchester United are eyeing up Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius, according to A Bola.

Vinicius, 25, has scored 20 in 33 games in all competitions since arriving at Benfica for around €20m from Napoli last summer.

The Brazilian has been scouted by Liverpool and has a €100m release clause, but the report states that United are ready to offer around €40m to test their resolve.

11.04 BST: Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan and he has scored for fun in Italy since.

10.34 BST: Joan Laporta has said he wants Pep Guardiola to return as Barcelona coach next summer if he is successfully elected as the club's president.

"I would really like Guardiola to return, but right now he's at City and it's a decision he must make," Laporta told Spanish television station TV3. "He is a reference point for this club and many supporters would love to see him coaching Barca again. When the moment is right, I will speak with the person we believe should be Barca's manager from 2021."

09.45 BST: Gazzetta dello Sport goes one further than the report below to say that Inter Milan, having rejected an €80m offer from Barcelona for Lautaro Martinez, are now considering a new deal from the Catalan club.

The deal would include a minimum €90m in cash plus Nelson Semedo or Emerson. Martinez is tied to Inter until June 2023 and has a €111m release clause, but Barca are willing to offer the striker wages of €10m net per season. Inter cannot afford to pay Martinez those wages but are willing to double the player's salary, which stands at €1.5m net per season.

09.08 BST: Chelsea are hopeful they can fend off interest from Borussia Dortmund and sign academy prospect Charlie Webster to a professional deal at the London club, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Webster, 16, will be eligible to sign his first senior deal when he turns 17 next January, but already there is interest from abroad in the England under-17 international.

Chelsea are determined to keep hold of him and gradually incorporate him into the first-team squad which already has several young English player who have graduated through the club's youth ranks such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour.

08.35 BST: Inter Milan are leading the race to sign Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of Juventus, AC Milan and Barcelona, Sky Italia reports.

Tonali is one of the most promising Italian players and there are a number of top European clubs reportedly keen to acquire the Italy international. The 20-year-old scored one goal and set up five more in 23 league appearances for Brescia.

The good relations between Inter and Brescia and Tonali's eagerness to join the Nerazzurri has given the Milan outfit the edge.

Sky reports that Tonali, who has a contract with Brescia until June 2021 that includes an option to extend the deal for a further year, would prefer to remain in Italy if he does leave he has been at since 2012.

08.00 BST: Manchester United are working towards extending Odion Ighalo's loan at Old Trafford but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told he may have to do without the striker if the Premier League season resumes, sources have told ESPN.

Ighalo's initial loan spell is due to end on May 31 and parent club Shanghai Shenhua want him back for the new Chinese Super League, scheduled to start in July.

United are keen to keep hold of the Nigeria international to allow him to feature in the fixtures that have been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, they are reluctant to sign Ighalo permanently -- Shanghai's price tag is around £20m -- and Solskjaer is aware that he may not have the 30-year-old in his squad if the Premier League gets the green light to return.

PAPER TALK (by Nick Judd)

Inter planning swap as part of Martinez sale

Inter Milan are warming to the idea of selling Lautaro Martinez to Barcelona, and they've now identified Camp Nou defenders Nelson Semedo and Emerson as players they'd like to include in the deal.

Inter are desperately keen to land a new right-back as they rebuild for next season, and of the two options at their possible disposal at Barca, Sport suggests they're keen to land Emerson, who is on loan at Real Betis.

Emerson is also considered the more viable move of the two players, with Manchester City having offered Semedo a deal that Inter feel they can't compete with.

Inter value Martinez at €111m, but they could prefer a cash-plus-player deal. For Semedo to happen, though, Barca would need to pay Betis €6m to end his loan spell before then sending him to the Italian capital.

Semedo is valued at around €20m.

Barca considering move for Tottenham's Foyth

Regardless of the above, Barcelona are still looking for fresh defensive reinforcements this summer, and Mundo Deportivo reports that the Blaugrana are considering a move for Tottenham central defender Juan Foyth.

Foyth signed for Tottenham in 2017 and, despite not enjoying as much game time under Jose Mourinho, he's widely considered by others as one of the most promising rising Argentine stars.

Barcelona aren't alone in wanting to take Foyth away from north London, with Argentine rivals River Plate and Boca Juniors also interested.

However, Barca might feel they have the upper hand having already communicated with the Spurs hierarchy about Tanguy Ndombele, and they still have Samuel Umtiti to include in any potential swap deal.

Tap-ins

- Inter are considering a move for Verona's rising star Marash Kumbulla, according to Calciomercato. The Italian-Albian defender is one of the most sought-after youngsters in Serie A and Antonio Conte might just have the upper hand in the race to sign the 20-year-old as a result of Inter's positive relationship with Verona. Kumbulla could cost Conte between €20m-25m.

- Paris Saint-Germain could be raiding AC Milan for a couple of players this summer, reports Gazzetta dello Sport. The French champions have already submitted an offer for Ismael Bennacer, but it looks as though Leonardo could be tempted to sign Lucas Paqueta too. After a strong start to the season, the Brazilian had drifted out of form before proceedings were cut short by the pandemic. And with Milan's management in a state of flux, Paqueta's future looks in doubt.
