Seven arrested in Brazil's 'Operation Game Over' match-fixing probe

Brazilian police have made seven arrests in a match-fixing probe code-named Operation Game Over.

The investigation was opened in 2015 and has examined fixing links between tournaments held in northern Brazil and betting syndicates in Malaysia, China and Indonesia.

According to a police officer involved in the probe, the match-fixing ring involves players, coaches and senior figures at clubs in the second and third divisions of the Sao Paulo state championship.

"The first phase of this operation is to stop those being investigated, listen to them, and gather more evidence to begin a second phase so we know the exact extent of this gang and if it affects other tournaments, championships or sports," officer Kelly Cristina Sacchetto Cesar de Andrade told Reuters.
