Kwesé Sports is delighted to bring to you the inaugural Star Sixes legends tournament from the O2 Arena in London this weekend, as some of football's greatest names from the last 20 years lock horns and the grandest nations in the world game go toe-to-toe.

The Star Sixes, which runs from Thursday July 14 to Sunday July 16 is a brand new six-a-side tournament that proudly describes itself as "the first ever competitive world football tournament for iconic former international players."

As the Star Sixes slogan puts it: "The stars are back", and we're inclined to agree, with 12 all-stars squads featuring high-profile talent such as Michael Ballack, Steven Gerrard, Deco and, headlining Nigeria's selection, Jay-Jay Okocha.

The tournament will also boast World Cup winners from the 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 tournaments, with Carles Puyol, Alessandro Del Piero and Robert Pires captaining Spain, Italy and France respectively.

The event is specially designed to maximise the fans' enjoyment, with all the fun packed into four eventful days.

The twelve teams are split into three groups, with Group A featuring England, Spain, Mexico, Scotland, Group B pitting Brazil, Italy, Nigeria and China against each other, and a mouthwatering Group C set to be settled between Germany, France, Portugal and Denmark.

The top two, plus the best two third-placed teams, progress to the quarterfinals, played on Saturday 15 July, with the semifinals and finals on the Sunday.

France's captain Pires had this to say about the Star Sixes, "This football will be totally different. This is inside, the pitch is smaller and the fans will see more dribbling, more skills."

The former Arsenal man also emphasied the competitive nature of the tournament.

"I'm very happy to be a part of this event with Star Sixes," he added. "I'm a competitor, and though I'm retired, when you play football the most important thing is to win."

Only players who've represented their country at senior level are invited to be part of the team, and Brazil's line-up looks particularly star-studded, including Roberto Carlos, Gilberto Silva, Rivaldo, Dida and Juninho.

The England team also resembles a who's who of recently retired stars. Gerrard is joined by Michael Owen, Rio Ferdinand, Emile Heskey, Phil Neville and David James.

France have included Marcel Desailly and Eric Abidal, while Okocha's Nigeria boast Celestine Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba and Taribo West.

This is a rare opportunity to see some of the game's genuine legends lace-up for a thrilling four days of action, so don't miss all of the Star Sixes action LIVE on Kwesé Sports.
