PSG's Edinson Cavani has discussed Atletico Madrid move - Diego Godin

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin says his Uruguay teammate Edinson Cavani would be "delighted" to move to the Liga side.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Cavani has struggled for consistent playing time as the side's main striker, although that could change when Zlatan Ibrahimovic's departs in the summer.

Atletico have been linked with Cavani, who joined the Ligue 1 club from Napoli in 2013 for a fee in the region of €60 million.

Asked on the El Partido de las 12 radio show whether he had ever called Cavani to persuade him to join him at Atletico, Godin said they had discussed the possibility more than once.

"A number of times," Godin said. "Cavani loves Atletico and their way of playing, because it is very similar to the way we play with the Uruguay national team. He would be delighted to come here. I will not talk about [wages], although I know he would be happy."

Godin has won the 2012 Europa League, 2013 Copa del Rey and the 2014 La Liga title with Atletico, and could make up for disappointment against Real Madrid in the 2014 Champions League decider when the two clubs meet again in this year's final in Milan on May 28.

Such success has seen the 30-year-old linked through recent years with richer clubs elsewhere, including Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City, although he signed a new Atletico contract last summer that runs until 2019.

"It was not Chelsea," Godin said. "I have friends here and feel committed to them, to the coach, and the club. When an offer comes, and money is on the table, you weigh things up. We have dreams to fulfil here -- Atletico is the best team in the world to play in.

"Maybe other clubs are more financially powerful, but none gets so much out of the individual player as Atletico. When the stadium chants your name, and you meet fans on the street, it makes you give more, it is more important than any individual trophy."

Godin said that the experience of losing to Madrid two years ago in Lisbon would help Atletico this year, although the upcoming final was too close to call.

"People make us favourites for having eliminated Barca and Bayern, but a final against Madrid is a 50-50 game," he said. "We have learned from the game in Lisbon. We know very well how we must play against Real Madrid and the previous games are positive.

"We will set out to play a tactical game, very physical, and I believe it will be decided by little details. The team is arriving physically very well for the final. We will compete at 150 percent."

Atletico boss Diego Simeone and fitness specialist Oscar el Profe Ortega would have the team well prepared for the game, Godin said.

"A group of players are to the death with their coach, believe in what is being done and prepare a lot to play the big teams," he said. "The key is in being convinced, and in the work, a lot of work.

"We believe to the death in what [Simeone] and el Profe Ortega tell us. Simeone always knows how to give the right message or speech that the team needs. He knows what to say in every moment, and that is the most difficult thing for a coach. The most emotional I can remember were the second leg against Barca [a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals] and the first game against Bayern a [1-0 win in the semifinals]."
