Pep Guardiola 'fed up' discussing Sergio Aguero Manchester City future

MANCHESTER -- Pep Guardiola says he's had enough of discussing Sergio Aguero's future ahead of Manchester City's trip to Sunderland on Sunday.

The striker told reporters that he would not decide on his long-term future until June following City's 5-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Speculation has grown that he could leave after losing his place in the starting lineup to Gabriel Jesus before the Brazilian fractured a bone in his foot that will rule him out for much of the season.

Guardiola has been delighted with Aguero's form since and described his performance in the win over Huddersfield as his best since he joined the club and now wants to draw a line under suggestions that he could leave in the summer.

"I spoke 10 times about that, 10 times," he said when asked about Aguero's comments that he wants to discuss his future at the end of the season.

"You know my opinion. I cannot answer every single press conference about Sergio Aguero. He is so happy, I am so happy. We are happy. Ten times I answer -- no more please."

The Argentine has scored four times in City's last two games as Guardiola's side scored five times in successive victories over Monaco in the Champions League and Huddersfield in the FA Cup.

But City remain 11 points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League and the Spaniard says Antonio Conte's side have a very strong position with just 12 games to play.

"Everybody would prefer to be in Chelsea's position because you are playing, knowing that losing one game we will be top, if we lose two games we will be top, if we lose three games we will be top," he said.

"When that happens during the game, mentally you're more relaxed, more confident and of course the quality of their play makes the difference.

"I don't answer too much about how many points you are behind or how you have to do. The better way is what we have done in the last game, what was our plan, what we thought about that we should do, and after that analyse which things we did well and what we can improve, and make it better in the next game. And after that we will see what happens in the end with the table."

City face rock-bottom Sunderland at the Stadium of Light and Guardiola said it won't be hard to guard against complacency with the race for the top-four Champions League places very much alive.

"When you are a football player or manager in a big club like Manchester City, so you have to be able to handle that," Guardiola said.

"[You have] to accept you have to win every single game when that isn't going to happen. You have to accept the storm is coming and handle that as best as possible and win again as quick as possible to make the storm stronger and stronger. That is what it is.

"Of course, before the games with Sunderland, I am complete awareness, we cannot win. So we have to prepare well because it will be tough.

"It will be tough, like all the games we play here in the Etihad. But what I am confident the most because everyday my feeling is better. Our build-up is better, we create more chances in the last two games and scored 10 goals."
