Schumacher Ferrari sells at auction for $7.5m

Michael Schumacher's Monaco Grand Prix-winning Ferrari F2001 has sold at auction in New York for over $7,500,000.

The car was sold alongside contemporary art at a Sotheby's auction on Thursday night, collecting a record price tag for a modern F1 car.

The example on sale was chassis 211, which not only delivered Schumacher his last Monaco Grand Prix victory in 2001 but was also used to clinch that year's title with a victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Up until Sebastian Vettel's victory at Monaco this year, it was also the last Ferrari to win at the Principality.

It had been put up for auction with an estimate of $4,000,000, but collected a final selling price of $7,504,000. A portion of the sale will be donated to Michael Schumacher's Keep Fighting Foundation by the previous owner.

Schumacher's 2001 title was the fourth of his seven world championships in which he won nine of the 17 races that season.
