Daniil Kvyat will sit down with Red Bull bosses this week after creating a "day of disaster" for the team by driving into Sebastian Vettel in Russia.

Kvyat managed to hit Vettel twice in two corners at the start of his home grand prix, outbraking himself into Turn 2 and knocking the Ferrari into Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo before punting him off completely at the next corner. The incident earned Kvyat a stop-go penalty and three points on his superlicence but also forced Ricciardo to pit due to damage and switch to the medium tyres, only recovering to finish 11th.

Asked after the race if he had spoken to Kvyat, Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko told RTL: "Yes, I said one word to him. The rest still has to be said."

Marko went on to say the first incident would have been forgiveable on its own but cannot condone Kvyat's second collision with Vettel, which the Russian driver said was caused by the Ferrari suddenly slowing down.

"Let's put it this way: Kvyat was over-motivated. Braking too late once and hitting another car would be acceptable in front of his home crowd, but this doesn't apply for the second crash. It's a pity because he did not only ruin Vettel's race and [Daniel] Ricciardo's race, but also his own race. He had to do an extra stop. It was a day of disaster for Red Bull."

Marko admitted the Sochi paddock was not the place to talk to Kvyat properly about the incident with emotions still high and revealed discussions are planned for the team's return home this week.

"Let's cool down a bit. During the week we will talk about this."
