G2 Esports dominated FC Schalke 04 in a 3-1 series during the 2018 European League of Legends Championship Series Regional Qualifier. With the win, the team secured a 2018 World Championship berth.

From the start of the series G2 Esports had its work cut out as it was up against heavy favorites FC Schalke 04. If one looked at the team based off recent performances, then it could be expected that G2 Esports would be defeated rather easily. But the squad had different ideas, with dominant showings from jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski and support Kim "Wadid" Bae-in.

With Schalke's star jungler Maurice "Amazing" Stückenschneider struggling to get things done in the early game, the team simply was unable to play to its identity throughout the entire series. Although Schalke was seemingly unprepared, credit must be given to G2 Esports as the team took advantage of the smallest mistakes and ran away with the series with ease. With the enemy jungler consistently unable to get things done, G2 Esports opted to pick up the pace, with Jankos forcing skirmishes early to put pressure down all across the map. Working in conjunction with several roams from Wadid, the duo was able to facilitate skirmishes for the team's carries to succeed, buying the players room to dismantle Schalke.

Schalke showed signs of life in Game 2, which happened to be the only game in the series where the team was able to piece together an early lead. Much to the team's dismay, it seemed completely unprepared to play slowly and scale up when necessary.

This proved to be the nail in the coffin in the final two games of the series, as G2 Esports got ahead early and refused to concede any openings. With the enemy team dominating in teamfights, Schalke simply had no avenue to bounce back. The team became desperate in the final game, overextending and allowing G2 to pick up uncontested kills and objectives. Before Schalke knew it, it was too late to come back. With Wadid on Rakan, one of his signature engage champions, G2 Esports was able to force fights constantly, taking over and closing out Game 4 with ease.

With the victory, G2 Esports secured the third EU seed at the 2018 World Championship. It may have taken the team some time to find synergy among the new roster, but when it mattered most, the team performed, punching its ticket to Korea.
