Immortals earn bye with sweep of Team EnVyUs

After missing the playoffs in the spring, Immortals secured a playoff bye after sweeping Team EnVyUs on Friday and will head to Boston later this month to fight for the NA LCS championship. Riot Games

Immortals needed one series victory in the final week of the Summer Split to secure a bye in the first round of the North American League of Legends Championship Series Summer Playoffs, and got it with a sweep of Team EnVyUs on Friday in Los Angeles.

The series looked very much like a first-place team against the sixth as Game 1 was a quick beat down. Immortals (13-4, 28-15 match record) cruised to victory after an early teamfight traded first blood for four kills just three minutes in. IMT jungler Jake "Xmithie" Puchero predicted EnVy's early invade and led the winning engage that gave IMT gold leads in all lanes. EnVy couldn't catch its breath as IMT pushed the tempo and earned a 6,600 gold lead at the 15-minute mark, the second largest lead at the 15-minute mark in the Summer Split. There was no hope for EnVy as it got slaughtered 4-0 in a teamfight while protecting the Nexus, allowing IMT to take a 1-0 series lead.

Game 2 started off close as EnVy made some successful roams pre-level six rotations in, but struggled in teamfights after. The second half of Game 2 quickly snowballed in IMT's favor as mid laner Eugene "Pobelter" Park's Taliyah set up plenty of objectives by using Weaver's Wall to keep EnVy at bay. Team EnVyUs (8-9, 21-24 match record) could barely put a dent in IMT's frontline late as it lost every teamfight en route to being swept.

Team EnVyUs fights for pride against Cloud9 on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET since it can't improve its place in the standings, and Immortals hope to steamroll through Echo Fox to finish its Summer Split regular season on Saturday at 6 p.m.
