Team SoloMid closed out its Week 7 with a 2-1 series victory against Echo Fox on Sunday during the North American League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split in Los Angeles.
Echo Fox (4-10, 13-21 match record) drafted a risky team composition in Game 1 that needed to snowball a lead in order to win. The early game went well for it as rotations netted first blood and turret gold.
However, Team SoloMid (10-4, 22-10 match record) started to come back in the mid-game by picking apart Echo Fox in teamfights and taking the lead in gold and objectives. The situation was getting bleaker by the minute for Echo Fox when a risky call for Baron created a disastrous outcome. Team SoloMid interrupted the attempt, scoring an ace, securing the buff and then using the power play to push down two inhibitors.
It didn't take long for TSM to siege through what was left of Echo Fox's base and take a series lead. TSM mid laner Sørren "Bjergsen" Bjerg received Player of the Game honors as his 6/0/8 KDA bumped him up to 1,000 NA LCS career kills, the first mid laner in the NA LCS to hit the milestone.
The laning phase of Game 2 was defined by Echo Fox support Austin "Gate" Yu roaming on Blitzcrank, setting up kills and taking an Infernal Drake. As the map opened up, EF continued to roam and make picks using Gate's Blitzcrank to set up the kills. Hoping to catch its opposition off guard, Team SoloMid went for a sneaky Baron attempt at the 23-minute mark, but Echo Fox AD carry Brandon "Mash" Phan's Draven stole the battered buff with Whirling Death.
The Baron power play aided Echo Fox's push to knock down two inhibitors but was cut short when TSM forced a fight and killed four Echo Fox players while losing none. TSM wouldn't be able to rally, however, as another poor Baron call gave Echo Fox top laner Brandon "Brandini" Chen's Camille enough time to split push the enemy Nexus down while each time skirmished around the pit.
The deciding Game 3 saw both teams start slowly, but that quickly went away once the map opened up. While Echo Fox grouped to push objectives, TSM's split push replied by knocking down turrets elsewhere. TSM top laner Kevin "Hauntzer" Yarnell's Camille started to run away with a gold lead as he repeatedly killed Brandini's Rumble in the side lanes and knocked down turrets.
Echo Fox was bleeding objectives and tried to fight its way back into control but couldn't overcome its massive gold deficit. Team SoloMid was able to bulldoze down the mid lane and finish off the series after a 4-0 teamfight victory.
Echo Fox faces off against Phoenix1 at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, while Team SoloMid will take on FlyQuest at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
