It took three games, but G2 Esports eventually earned 2-1 victory against H2K Gaming to close out Week 7, Day 1 of the European League of Legends Championship Series in Berlin.
G2 Esports (5-3, 13-8 match record) has now won three matches in a row since returning from the Rift Rivals tournament.
G2 AD carry Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen did say in the pre-game package that this series was going to be an extremely slow-moving one, and he was spot-on for Game 1. The teams only had five kills between them in the first 33 minutes.
At that 33-minute mark, though, G2 kicked the game into high-gear with a 3-for-1 teamfight win that led to a Baron. H2K (6-3, 14-6 match record) tried its best to nullify this buff with three kills in the very next teamfight, but G2 fired right back with a 4-for-0 teamfight win. Zven's Caitlyn was huge in that fight, picking up a double kill to secure the 38-minute win.
With the EU LCS playing on the most recent League patch, H2K decided to take a shot at the buffed Cho'Gath for jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski. He first lent a helping hand in his team's 3-for-1 teamfight just five minutes in, and by the time 13 minutes had passed, he had amassed a 4/0/3 KDA (kills/deaths/assists).
H2K never gave G2 a window back into the game. When the 33-minute win wrapped up, H2K held a 15,000-gold lead, 26-7 advantage in kills, and 9-1 advantage in towers.
The defending EU LCS champions came out with renewed vigor in Game 3, opting for a high-damage composition that quickly paid dividends. G2 got first blood and poured in kills from there to keep its advantage.
It wasn't as dominant as H2K's performance in Game 2 -- G2 ended with 14 kills in this game -- but it was no less decisive in the end. H2K never found a way to best G2 in a teamfight. Zven, again on Caitlyn, and top laner Ki "Expect" Dae-Han's Renekton led the way in the 29-minute win, combining for 11 of the team's 14 kills.
G2 will try to continue its second-half push on at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday against Team Vitality. H2K will have to wait a week to bounce back; it plays at 11 a.m. ET on July 28 against Splyce.
