Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that a professional Overwatch league is in the works at Wednesday's Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit in San Francisco, California.

"You will have the Overwatch league which will have a certain number of teams. Those teams will be a combination of professional sports teams as owners and endemic sports teams as owners," Kotick said during an onstage discussion moderated by Andrew Ross Sorkin of The New York Times, per TheStreet.

Kotick added that with the emergence of professional leagues, fans should expect an element of in-person spectating and arena events.

According to Adweek, the exec also said that Activision Blizzard has 500 million monthly active users in 196 countries, and that the network of players is five times bigger than Netflix.
