South African youngster Luther Singh has signed a new five-year contract with Sporting Braga and will train with the first team in the 2018/19 season, the Portuguese club confirmed on Thursday.

Singh, who will feature for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup that starts on Sunday, impressed with 12 goals in 44 appearances for the club's B side in the last 18 months after joining from Swedish second-tier side GAIS.

"SC Braga can announce the extension of Luther Singh's contract and he will be bound to the company for a further five seasons until 2022/23," Braga announced on their website.

"Singh will join the first team at the beginning of pre-season for 2018/19."

Singh is a product of the Stars of Africa Academy in Johannesburg that is run by coach Farouk Khan and also counts Tokelo Rantie, May Mahlangu and Surprise Ralani as past graduates.

The 20-year-old made his senior international debut in the 0-0 draw with Angola in March 2017, and has been a star of the junior sides, including at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup last year.

He has also previously been courted by Real Madrid's reserve side Castilla, but at the time GAIS refused to release him. Teams in England and France have also previously shown interest.
