Katie George, one of the rising stars in the England women's set-up, faces a lengthy period on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a stress fracture of the back.

George, 19, made her mark on England's tour of India in March, claiming a hat-trick in her first representative appearance against India A, before making her T20I debut against Australia in Mumbai later that week.

As a left-arm seamer with the ability to generate hostile pace, George has been earmarked as a potential attack-leading successor for England's veteran quick, Katherine Brunt, who has herself been sidelined with a back issue that forced her withdrawal from the World T20 in the Caribbean.

However, George has been beset by back injuries in recent years, and announced her latest setback on Twitter on Wednesday.

"Gutted to find out I have another stress fracture," George wrote. "Third back injury in four years is tough to take. Hard work starts now. Can't wait to be back doing what I love."

Despite missing out on the World T20 squad, George featured prominently in England's summer, playing two of the three ODIs against New Zealand and claiming 3 for 36 in a series-clinching spell at Derby.
