Sierra Leone's West Africa Quadrangular participation hangs in the balance

Whether Sierra Leone can compete in next month's West African Quadrangular tournament in Banjul, Gambia will determine the immediate fate of the event itself, according to chief organiser, Sonny Manly-Rollings.

Mr. Manly-Rollings said the tournament may not go ahead without Sierra Leone, whose participation is in doubt due to financial concerns.

"They are the defending champion so if they can't come we will most probably postpone it," Mr. Manly-Rollings said.

A civil war in Sierra Leone has made raising the funds for the trip difficult. A decision will be made in the next fortnight.

The other competing teams are the host country, Gambia, Ghana and Nigeria.
