Western Province in control

A major power failure in the Cape Town area could not stopWestern Province from storming to what should be a convincing win against the Zimbabwe Under-23s. Having bowled the Under-23s out for 77, with William Hantam finishing with a career-best 6 for 39, they took a 130-run lead into the second innings. Batting for a second time, Province posted a total of 228 for 6 when the declaration came. Warren Wyngaard's career best 70, and fifties from Alistair Gray and Dominic Telo, made up the bulk of the runs. At the close the Under-23s were 19 for 3.

There was a lot of excitement in East London as KwaZulu-Natal attempted to chase down a target of 249 after Border had declared at 327 for 6 with Bevan Bennett scoring a magnificent maiden hundred. His 126 included 22 boundaries and a six. The Natal chase started well and at 119 for 2 in looked like it was all over, but a spell from the Border opening bowler Rowan Richards (5 for 53) saw five wickets fall for only 40 runs. In the end time ran out and Natal settled for the draw.
