A curious record and AB's rare fumble

Eoin Morgan celebrates his 11th ODI hundred Getty Images

Bouncer of the day
Joe Root's first game on his home turf since being appointed England captain came to grief against a high and not particularly venomous bouncer from Andile Phehlukwayo. He bowled the delivery more than once and it did for Root as he tried to shovel the ball into the leg-side at full stretch with feet off the ground.

Misfield of the day
Misfields from AB de Villiers are so rare that they are worth recording. Moeen Ali was struggling for momentum when his drive at Imran Tahir evaded de Villiers at mid off, assisted perhaps by the old wicket ends, and rolled to the boundary. Moeen, who had 25 from 27 balls at the time, never looked back, adding another 52 from his last 24.

Odd statistic of the day
Eoin Morgan has now scored more ODI runs than anybody who has ever played for England - but he is not England's leading ODI run-scorer - that accolade still rests with Ian Bell. The difference, of course, are the 744 runs that Morgan has also made for Ireland at the beginning of his international career.

Giveaways of the day
Twice within 19 balls, South Africa's pursuit of 340 was undermined by badly-executed pull shots. Both JP Duminy and David Miller had reason to expect to put their deliveries into the crowd. Instead, Duminy's thwack at a long hop from Adil Rashid barely reached Chris Woakes at deep square and, when Woakes joined the attack, Miller helpfully hauled another short ball in the same direction.
