Chris Lynn century powers Queensland past South Australia

Queensland 3 for 281 (Lynn 106*, Heazlett 80, Bryant 71, Zampa 3-58) beat South Australia 280 (Cooper 139, Carey 42, Stanlake 3-36, Bartlett 3-43) by seven wickets

Chris Lynn and Max Bryant laid waste to South Australia on the way to a commanding victory for Queensland in the domestic limited-overs match at the postage-stamp-sized Hurstville Oval in Sydney.

Restricting the Redbacks to 280 after sending them in to bat first, the Bulls made entertainingly short work of the chase, reaching their target in a mere 35.3 overs to comfortably clinch a bonus point. The powerfully built teenager Bryant hammered no fewer than six sixes in an innings the featured a 23-ball half century, repeatedly sending the ball onto the cycling track that encircles the ground.

Bryant's exit, one of three wickets for Adam Zampa, left Lynn with a friendly match scenario, and he took full advantage by pummelling an unbeaten 106 from 71 balls, his first ever century in the 50-overs format for state or country. Prior to the tournament Lynn had spoken about not being in too much of a rush, in the knowledge that his natural power game would bring plenty of scoring opportunities, and this was borne out in an innings that featured eight sixes and as many fours.

Sitting in the slipstream was the left-hander Sam Heazlett, who put together a relatively sedate 80 from 78 balls to guide the chase. After his exit and also a brief spell by Charlie Hemphrey, Lynn and the former Test opener Joe Burns had little trouble cantering through the remaining runs to deliver the win for Queensland.

Billy Stanlake had earlier ensured SA were playing catch-up with a swift and well-directed spell of 3 for 36 that included the wickets of the key Redbacks trio Jake Weatherald, Callum Ferguson and Alex Ross. Tom Cooper was left to salvage the innings with the help of the lower order, but his determined 139 was to prove only an exercise in providing something for Bryant and Lynn to aim at.
