5.25pm: Here we go, presentations time... Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews: "Yeah, it was a tough game. Bairstow and Hales batted really well to get them to 300, I thought we started well but we dropped a couple of catches. We've got to practice hard, regroup, we've got a few days off, talk about our strategies and bounce back. It's a bit inexperienced [batting line-up] but we have to be fearless but it was against a top-quality bowling attack and there wasn't much we could do. You can't make too many changes, it's going to be hard but we have to make the change mentally. The batters have to be really skillful in those conditions and unfortunately we couldn't cope."

England captain Alastair Cook: "Nice standing at first slip with our bowling attack in those conditions. [Follow on?] If we had three more days we would have batted, we weren't sure about Ben [Stokes], but the rain break today gave us a bit more time off and the way Jimmy and Stuart backed up, it was a pleasure to captain them. You always wonder if Headingley had that twist in it at some point... Jonny Bairstow was brilliant, an extraordinary innings, and I thought the way Alex batted was really disciplined and set the game up. [Bayliss chat after rain break] He just wanted a bit more publicity, standing out in front of every one... [Dropped catches?] We still created chances, really pleased with the performance and we head to Durham with a lot of confidence."

Jonny Bairstow is named Man of the Match: [Anderson a close second] "He's got it on a string, really skillful, but I'm delighted to get the award. It's exciting to keep to, for me and the slips to be involved with, it keeps you in the game. Hope we can do the same again next week. I'm pleased with the way I'm striking the ball, wouldn't say I'm the finished article, pleased with the way it's going but more to do in the series. [Frustrated with dismissal] It was a soft way to get out, Finny batted really well to help put on 50, Alex as well, to get us up to 298. To come close and not get over the line but having been there, Alex has shown how good a player he is, so I don't see why he can't get there. It's been absolutely fantastic, the crowd's been brilliant, it shows how much it means when people come out to support us, to score my first hundred in England and take nine catches, it means so much."

5.10pm: Another undignified collapse, SL losing 8 for 40 after the rain break to be obliterated for the second time. That will help England erase the memory of 2014 and it puts them 1-0 up in the series, with two to play (not to mention 4-0 up in the 'Super Series'). If the size of the challenge for Sri Lanka was in any doubt, it has been made absolutely crystal clear amid the Leeds murk. There's a question about Ben Stokes' fitness for Chester-le-Street but a couple of extra days' rest won't hurt in that regard. Going to be a steep learning curve.

Here's Jimmy, after picking up his third ten-wicket haul in Tests, on the ground where he shed a tear two years ago: "Very different [to 2014], nice to put that to bed well and truly. We were frustrated last time, got off to a good start here, hopefully we can carry that on. It's been a good week for us, the knocks from Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales showed how crucial it was, not good conditions for batting, they deserve a lot of credit and then all four seamers got involved. We stuck at it, thought they played quite well in the second innings but we got through them. Of course, without Sangakkara and Mahela, it's a weaker team but at the same time they've still got players that are class batsmen. We put enough balls in the right areas to challenge them. All in all, a couple of chances went down today but that's going to happen, but we did well in the field."
