1.45 am, the next day: And that, finally, is that. Thanks for staying up with us. Now off we all go.

Nathan Coulter-Nile is the Man of the Match on his return from injury. He picked up 3 for 20. His third such award in seven games. "It's better than it was a couple of days ago. Didn't expect it to affect me as much as it did [the head injury] I went to bed at 10 pm and woke up at 7 pm the next day and I had headaches. Finally over that. The exact opposite of Kolkata, good pace and bounce there, here not so much. Worked out well for us though. All our bowlers were good. Chawla was good, getting the wicket of Warner, who could turn a score of 130 to 160. Intensity starts in the first over, with Umesh making Warner play and miss. When it was raining, we were quietly confident because 12.50 am was the cut off time. But it rained and rained and we were itchy."

1.40 pm KKR will now play Mumbai Indians on Friday, at Bengaluru again, for a place in the final. Here's their captain, Gautam Gambhir: "A lot of credit to the bowlers. They set the game up for us. We should have been more sensible with the batting, though. But the bowlers restricting the Sunrisers batting to 128 was brilliant. There has been times when we've lacked intensity. And every run we stop on the field is one less to score and all 11 players were up for that. They knew that last time Sunrisers beat us in this Eliminator and they got it back for us. It was a much better wicket than we played RCB on. It was coming onto the bat nicely in our innings. I think if you target 160 you will get a good score. You can't just go on looking for 200 every game. You do get nervous [about the rain] and we have played really well this season and our bowlers put in an unbelievable effort and if we had gone out after the rain, it wouldnt have been good. We don't have a good record against Mumbai, but hopefully we can settle that tomorrow."

"We were 30 runs short. It was quite a tough wicket to bat on. The ball was holding up a bit. It's been quite a disappointing wicket all season. And they bowled really well on it," says David Warner, the Sunrisers captain. "The way we batted wasn't good enough and six over games can be niggly. We had to come out with positive intent, got three wickets, but we knew they would come hard and it happened. We were good, as we were last time. We found some good talent, we played some good cricket with bat and ball, whereas last year it was either bat or ball. Thanks to all the people in Hyderabad, without you guys we wouldn't be out here playing"

1.27 am Well, it took a while coming, but Kolkata Knight Riders come out deserving winners. Their bowlers were outstanding; exploited a slow pitch by bowling into it. Over 50 of the 70-odd deliveries the quicks bowled were short, most of them were straight. That made life so difficult for batsmen as classy as David Warner and Kane Williamson, who just couldn't trust the pace at which the ball comes up off the surface. Brilliant bowling.

And it should have been a straightforward chase, but for the rain and the panic. KKR spent nearly the length of an entire game in the dressing room, and if there had been no play, they would have been knocked out despite being the better team on the night. In a normal game, 48 off the last six overs would be a breeze to most T20 teams. But KKR, perhaps spooked by the possibility of further rain, pushed Yusuf Pathan up the order and played some rash strokes in the two-over Powerplay to be three down in seven balls. Then came Gautam Gambhir and he did what was necessary. Got a few risk-free boundaries away and then nudged the singles around. He made 32 not out in the target. That's 66% of the runs.

Bipul Sharma to Jaggi, 1 run, KKR are through! The defending champions are knocked out! And the match ends finally at 1.27 am. The final act, a miscued pull to midwicket and a harried single. Gambhir punches the air and bellows out a war cry.
