Scorer: K Vairavan | Commentator: Rvel Zahid

That's all, folks! Rain put a damper on things today but don't be sad because BBL 13 has just started and there's a lot of action coming your way. Do tune in for tomorrow's game between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers in Geelong. This is Rvel Zahid, signing off

8:02pm: Match called off due to rain

Rain got heavier in the last hour, so unfortunately, the match has been abandoned without a ball being bowled. It was on the cards given the incessant rain since morning. Both teams will split points. Hopefully, tomorrow we'll get some action. The forecast looks better for tomorrow in Geelong

7:45pm: Still drizzling, covers firmly in place. Just a reminder that the latest start time is 8:50 pm. It's going to take at least 45 minutes to clear the ground if it stops raining now so there is a slim chance of any play but there's no official update of match abandonment yet

Shan Masood was adjudged player of the match for his 201* in the tour match between Pakistan and Prime Minister's XI. You might want to take a look at the match report of the storm-curtailed game. The first Test is set to get underway on December 14 in Perth

Dazza: "Oh well, it's raining... can we call it now so I can go to sleep." No, not yet. If you go to sleep right now, you might end up missing some cricket. Grab a cup of tea!

7:10pm: Some fans spotted in the top tier in one of the stands; they don't seem bummed by the weather and are dancing in the aisles as the Super Sopper continues the mopping work in the outfield

Wes Agar: It's always a great time of the year around Christmas and putting on the blue again. I can't wait for the season to start. Shorty's been so good for us especially last year. He has really propelled and now hes' playing for Australia in two different formats in the winter and to come into this season, he's going to be great for us with the addition of some new players, hopefully we can fire. (On adjustment from red ball to white ball cricket) Personally, I find it okay, the hardest ball to hit in any form of cricket is the top of off stump, you nail that in the red ball, it's just adjusting to the variations, yorkers, slow balls and you only have a week to transition so it's more about honing in on them in the training days. Heat are coming off a great game up in Brisbane, they have got some good internationals, Colin Munro up top and Sam billings; two powerhouses, they have been great in international cricket and have been great in BBL over some time, I will be hoping to get them out early.

Stephen: "Living in Adelaide - I've got more chance of a date with a super model than any cricket tonight"

Emily: "well im gonna remember this day well agree to go with boyfriend to watch the strikers vs heat. only for it too rain and him to propose at home instead of out at the cricket. i did say yes thou" Congratulations! You know, sometimes the best moments happen where you least expect them. Cheers to your beautiful journey together! And the BBL has just started, I hope you two will get to enjoy some cricket later

6:42pm: Squares are still under cover, and it looks overcast. The Super Sopper is stationary at the moment. It does look like the rain is clearing slightly

Jack: "Annoyed that rain may wipe out the game here. Might settle for the Test match over in Dhaka and watch history being made for Bangladesh instead. That's a solid back-up plan!" That sounds like a really good plan. You can follow the match here Even though there is a remote prospect of any play given how it's pouring down unabated but a five-over game is still a possibility

In the last 30 hours, Adelaide has recorded rainfall exceeding 30mm, which is more than the typical monthly average for December

6:14pm: The latest start time for tonight's match is 8:50pm for an abridged minimum five overs per side contest. Stay tuned for further updates

wes r: "still raining here in northern suburbs Adelaide at a steady pace with no signs of stopping. lucky I didn't end up getting tickets"

6:07pm: And here comes the news that we didn't want to hear: Toss has been delayed due to uninterrupted rainfall

Shravan: "I've got the tickets to the game, is play possible at the ground with all the rains from the morning?" Well, the updates I am getting from the venue don't sound very promising, so I suggest you have a backup plan. The rain is still heavy

6:02pm: Andrew McGlashan pings that it rained all day in Adelaide and the forecast suggests it will keep raining. There is a likelihood of a washout but let's hope that we will get some cricket tonight.

Also, Nathan McSweeney has been made available for the Heat after they applied to the technical committee following the early call-off of the PM's XI game against Pakistan in Canberra

5:45pm: How ya goin'? Let's leave all our worries behind and immerse ourselves in some cricket as the home team Adelaide Strikers is set to face Brisbane Heat in the third match of BBL 13. I am Rvel (yes, that's a real name), and I'll be flying the commentary jet for this match

Strikers would want to leave behind the ghosts of last season when they lost five matches in a row after starting their campaign with a bang. On the other hand, Heat came so close yet remained so far from getting their hands on the silverware. They lost the BBL 12 final against Perth Scorchers, and once again, they have assembled a formidable squad for this year's edition. Colin Munro has been appointed as their new captain, and judging by his head-on batting approach, his mindset will likely rub off on his teammates

Heat got off to a brilliant start in the tournament's opener against Melbourne Stars and registered an emphatic 103-run win and it was Heat's captain Colin Munro who spearheaded the team magnificently and starred with an unbeaten fiery knock of 99 that got them to 214/3. In reply Stars were bundled out for 111

Adelaide Strikers also underwent a change in leadership, with Matt Short being handed the captaincy armband for this season. He has been an important cog in the wheel, a consistent performer, and is one of the players on the selectors' radar for a spot in Australia's T20 World Cup squad. The highest total at Adelaide Oval is 232, and the average first-innings total last year at this venue was 171. Last year at this venue, teams batting first won four matches, while scores were chased down on three occasions
