10pm And...breathe. A contest that was filled with twists and turns ultimately went the Scorchers' way, who have now moved level on points with Brisbane Heat. The Renegades will have a fair bit of reflection and introspection to indulge in, though, having withered away a very promising opportunity.

Hope you had fun tuning in, and do join us tomorrow as table-toppers Brisbane Heat clash with Sydney Thunder. Until then, this is me (Shashwat) sigining off on behalf of Harshith, Vairavan and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo. Goodbye and take care!

Josh Inglis is the Player of the Match, here is what he has to say: (On the game) If you see both innings, there were two big partnerships and then it was tough for the new batters. The bowlers were outstanding at the death to get us over the line. (On the chat at the half-way stage) We just had to make sure the boys showed plenty of energy and not be flat after a disappointing end to our innings. We are a well-rounded team. We have guys who have played for a long time and everyone plays their role really well. That is why we are so strong, I guess.

9:50pm What a game. It ebbed and flowed, and in the end, the Scorchers held their nerve just enough. The Renegades did not get off to the greatest of starts, with Clarke struggling, even as de Kock tried to take the attack to the hosts.

Once de Kock and Fraser-McGurk fell, the run-scoring burden was shouldered by Marsh. Unfortunately for the Renegades, no one else really grabbed the game by the scruff of its neck, leaving Marsh with too much to do. In fact, he was the only batter in the top seven to strike at more than 130.

Marsh's dismissal in the 17th over, brought about by Morris, who also accounted for de Kock, firmly tilted the scales in the Scorchers' favour. Maddinson, Wells and Sutherland all threw their bats around but without any conviction. Behrendorff and Tye, as usual, were frugal, combining for three wickets in eight overs, giving away only 44 runs between them. Richardson, meanwhile, snapped up Clarke.

Tye to Zampa, 1 run, the Scorchers win by 13 runs! Banged in again on leg stump. Zampa gives himself room and swings for the hills. Shanks it and the ball drops into the vacant backward square leg region. The Scorchers have defended a total again, and the Renegades will look at this as a massive missed opportunity!

One more legal delivery and the Scorchers will be home. A cacophony of noise at the Perth Stadium, and no prizes for guessing why

19.5

Tye to Zampa, no run, short and sharp on middle and off. Zampa backs away and flays at it but can only connect with fresh air
19.4
0
Tye to Zampa, no run, bashes it into the pitch on middle and leg. Whistles through and Zampa is awfully late on the slog. Goes past the bat, and the Renegades now need a miracle (or some extras)

Zampa in now. 15 needed off 3. Surely the Scorchers will win this from here? Tye is on a hat-trick, by the way

19.3
W
Tye to Richardson, OUT, straight up, and that is two in two for Tye! Hard length, angling into leg stump. Richardson tries to back away and smoke it over extra cover. Gets cramped for room, though, and splices it up. Tye calls early and does the rest!

KW Richardson c & b Tye 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Kane Richardson in at 9. The Renegades need 15 off 4

19.2
W
Tye to Wells, OUT, straight down deep backward square leg's throat! Half-tracker on leg stump, and this ought to have travelled. Wells gets a good chunk of it too but picks out the sweeper to absolute perfection. A vital, vital wicket, and that could be that, as far as this run-chase is concerned!

JW Wells c Connolly b Tye 8 (16m 7b 1x4 0x6) SR: 114.28

19.1
2
Tye to Wells, 2 runs, length on middle and off. Wells advances and thumps it to mid on. Hardie, of all people, misfields and ends up conceding the second. Wells back on strike

17 off the final over. Tye to bowl. Can the Renegades snatch this one out of the fire? Wells on strike

Richardson to Rogers, FOUR, oh my days! Full and speared into the stumps. Rogers walks across his stumps nonchalantly and laps it. Fine leg gets a hand to it but cannot prevent the boundary!

21 off 7 as Rogers strides out. Can he find the fence?

18.5
W
Richardson to Sutherland, 1 run, OUT, Sutherland has been run out, oh my! Another exceptional yorker on middle and off. Sutherland clinks it towards deep cover point and is hell-bent on coming back for the second. Could be touch-and-go again as the fielder fires it in at the batters end. Inglis does the rest and on this occasion, Sutherland is just inches short of his ground!

W Sutherland run out 5 (7m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 125.00

1
Richardson to Wells, 1 run, very full, almost a yorker on middle and leg. Wells squeezes it out to long on and he has to settle for a single
18.3

Richardson to Wells, FOUR, shot! Another attempted yorker on middle and off. Wells advances, converts it into a full toss and crashes it between extra cover and mid off!
18.2

Richardson to Wells, no run, right in the blockhole at the stumps. All Wells can do is dig it out to the bowler
18.1
1
Richardson to Sutherland, 1 run, low full toss just outside off. Sutherland backs away and carves it towards deep cover point

28 off 12. The Scorchers, at this stage, are perhaps favourites. Richardson to bowl the penultimate over. Sutherland on strike

2
Behrendorff to Sutherland, 2 runs, It is all happening now! Banged into the track outside off. Sutherland gets on top of the bounce and pulls it powerfully towards deep mid wicket. Decides, rather ambitiously, to come back for the second. The throw is accurate and Inglis takes off the bails. The question, though, is whether the bat was on the line when the bails came off. Looks awfully close. Proper touch-and-go stuff. If Sutherland has managed to get back, the fielder at deep mid wicket will be questioned because he was lackadaisical in releasing his throw. The third umpire is happy that there is just enough of the bat beyond the crease, and Sutherland stays!

Sutherland in now. The Renegades' chase is wobbling...

17.4
W
Behrendorff to Maddinson, OUT, taken on the fence this time! Slow and into the track again, not giving the batter any pace to work with. Maddinson winds up and gets it somewhere close to the middle of the bat. The problem, though, is that the deep sqare leg boundary is quite big and Evans, running to his right, gobbles it up!

NJ Maddinson c Evans b Behrendorff 9 (18m 14b 0x4 0x6) SR: 64.28

Behrendorff to Maddinson, no run, another off-pace delivery, this time, honing into leg stump. Maddinson swipes wildly and misses, getting pinged on the body in the process

Behrendorff to Wells, 1 leg bye, was that another chance?! Back of a length on leg stump. Wells swings at it and gets an inside edge that hits him on the midriff. The ball trickles towards the bowler. Maddinson decides to sneak in a single and gets there. Behrendorff tried to hit the stumps with a wave of his left boot but could not quite channel his inner Lionel Messi

1
Behrendorff to Maddinson, 1 run, dropped, you have got to be kidding me! Back of a length on leg stump, and this rears up on Maddinson. He swishes across the line and the ball loops up tamely off the top edge. Morris settles himself at fine leg but then puts down an absolute sitter

33 off 18 now. Behrendorff, Richardson and Tye, in all likelihood, will bowl these last three overs. Who are you backing? Here is Behrendorff for now

Morris to Wells, 1 run, short, fast and wide outside off. Wells throws his hands at it and the ball flies off the outside edge towards third man

Wells joins his skipper. This game is now right in the balance. 35 needed off 20

Vinod Rajpal: "This is definitely going for last ball thriller, maybe we can see a TIE as a result !"

W
Morris to Marsh, OUT, edged and taken! Morris takes out Marsh! Another cutter, testing out the middle of the track. This is outside off and Marsh tries to crash it over extra cover. Too early into the stroke, though, and all he does is feather it through to Inglis, who bends low to his left and completes the catch!
