Queesland 441 and 1 for 135 (Burns 64*) lead Victoria 344 (Maddinson 108, Harris 95, Swepson 4-76) by 232 runs

Nic Maddinson made his second successive Shield century but Queensland took control of the clash with Victoria at the Junction Oval.

Maddinson made 108 from 169 balls with 12 boundaries in a lone hand on day three as Victoria were bowled out 97 runs behind Queensland's first innings total.

He began the day on 36 and was dropped early at slip by Joe Burns off Mark Steketee, but was rock solid thereafter punishing anything that was overpitched although did not get much support from the other end. Matt Short's 80-ball 21 was the next highest score of the day as Maddinson cruised to his century at the other end before top-edging a pull shot of Cameron Gannon.

Maddinson also made 162 in the last Shield game before the BBL against Western Australia, but suffered a broken forearm in the second innings at the hands of Australia quick Jhye Richardson.

Queensland legspinner Swepson cleaned up the Victorian tail picking up 4 for 76 as the home side's first innings folded in meek fashion on the stroke of tea.

Queensland openers Burns and Matt Renshaw had an aggressive mindset in the last session as they attempted to set Victoria a fourth innings target.

The pair rode their luck with a number of outside edges and loose strokes failing to go to hand early, before both men opened their shoulders. Burns lofted Peter Siddle down the ground while Renshaw produced some stunning reverse sweeps off Jon Holland.

They put on 100 in 25 overs before Renshaw fell sweeping Holland for the second time in the top edge, caught off the top edge at short fine leg again just three runs shy of a half-century. He was the only Queensland wicket to fall in the final session.

Burns pressed on to his second half-century of the match and his sixth of the summer and Queensland will look to set up a declaration early on day four.
