Victoria's Marcus Harris makes case for Test selection with unbeaten 210

Victoria 8 for 356 (Harris 210*, Handscomb 48, Sangha 3-47) lead New South Wales 159 by 197 runs

Victorian opener Marcus Harris threw his name in the Test selection mix after a monumental double-century against New South Wales on day two at the MCG.

Harris, 26, struck 19 boundaries and faced 357 balls in his epic unbeaten 210. It was his ninth first-class hundred and his first double, surpassing his previous best of 158.

Since the start of the 2016-17, when Harris moved from Western Australia to Victoria, he has scored more Sheffield Shield runs and made more centuries than any other player in the competition.

Harris got steady support from his team-mates throughout the day. He shared a 58-run stand with Cameron White, an 81-run partnership with Seb Gotch and added 57 with Chris Tremain to build a steady lead. Scoring was relatively slow with Victoria managing just 255 runs for the day, Harris contributing 159 of those.

The Blues were able to keep the scoring rate under control, but could not remove Harris. Jason Sangha proved the most dangerous bowler on the day. His lively legbreaks claimed three wickets. While White impatiently holed out to mid-off, Sangha deceived Matt Short and Gotch.

Short fell to an excellent catch at bat pad from Nick Larkin. Gotch, meanwhile, was cleaned bowled by a superb wrong'un.

Harris remained unbeaten at stumps with Fawad Ahmed, and Victoria will aim to build their lead early on day three.
