26.3 oh, dear! What a tame dismissal! He had no business getting out to that one. It was a nothing wide delivery and shortish as well. Guptill flashes outside off but simply hits it straight into the hands of backward point. This partnership was swelling and beginning to look dangerous. Timely strike for Pakistan 156/2
12.3 good length outside off and Munro goes poking at it. Tried to force this through the off side, but it's too close to his body, takes the outside edge and safely taken by the keeper. Hasan Ali is pumped! 83/1
47.2 goes for a big heave and makes no good connection. This is a back-of-the-hand slower ball and Williamson as a result skews it off the bottom of the bat to be caught at extra cover where Hasan Ali snaffles it with the sun in his eyes 288/5
32.3 sharp nip off the surface! Good length outside off but angling into the right hander, moves sharply into Taylor's body and he's beaten for pace. Off stump is dislodged and Taylor has to make his way back 192/3
33.6 soft! Lobbed to midwicket for the simplest of catches. The extra ball gets the wicket. Good length on middle stump and Latham tried to work this towards the leg side, leading edge taken by Babar 198/4
48.1 gets around for a scoop but Hasan smartly follows him. Fires a low full toss around his off-stump and Nicholls skews it off the splice to the keeper. Can't get any distance on that whatsoever 297/6
49.5 Santner hits this pull in the direction of the breeze but he has holed out to cow corner. Gets on top of the bounce nicely and even makes pretty good connection. But probably not as well-middled we he would have liked. Smart take by Raees 311/7

0.4 looks mighty close and given. That looked plumb. Azhar contemplates on a review. He takes it but I highly doubt this will help Pakistan. This was full and straight. Just came on with the angle and Azhar looks to flick across the line. No inside edge, HotSpot confirms, as does Snicko. This will come down to ball-tracking. Hitting the top of leg, so on-field call remains. Pakistan lose their review 6/1

0.5 another appeal and given. Azam falls for a two-ball duck, and there is no review available because Azhar used it up. FInally gets that shape into the batsman, but this one seems to be a harsh call. Kicks up from a back of a length and hits Babar above the knee roll. Height definitely makes this a dodgy call 7/2
3.5 in the air and taken. Loose shot from Hafeez. No control whatsoever. That's a terrible shot with a boundary rider at backward square leg. Hooks a short ball that gets big on him and Southee runs to his left to snaffle it 13/3
8.4 edged and gone. Cross-seamer, angled in at fourth-stump channel and straightens, forces Malik to poke at it and finds the edge that's snaffled by the keeper 37/4
15.4 Sarfraz has been sent back. He stays put for just a moment and it makes you wonder if it's another dodgy. But tell you what. That doesn't seem so bad. Seems plumb. He brings the front foot forward to a loopy length ball that straightens down the middle and leg channel and pins him in front 54/5
26.5 finally they have broken the stand. A 78-run one. And it's the short ball that does it. Shadab takes it on and tries to pull. Considerable bounce on this delivery, and just enough to take the top-edge as Latham runs back from behind the stumps and pouches it 132/6

Match Notes

  • Williamson makes ton as New Zealand go 1-0 up in the rain

A masterful hundred from Kane Williamson and world-class new ball bowling by Tim Southee and Trent Boult saw New Zealand get off to a winning start against Pakistan

  • In-form sides fight for attention

The neutral fan might find it difficult to look away from higher-profile matches in Australia and South Africa, but this New Zealand-Pakistan series, pitting two closely-matched and in-form ODI sides, promises to be a cracker
