4.5 what a catch that is at short leg! Latham the fielder! Vijay came forward and flicked the ball and got a good chunk of the bat on it, the ball flew quickly but straight at Latham, who was doing the right things in terms of getting into position for such a chance. The ball struck his arm, then bobbled along his body before he grasped it in his hands 26/1
19.5 lbw! Boult has his man after hitting the back pad. The ball was pitched on a good length just outside off and came into the left-hander with the angle from over the wicket, beating the inside edge as Gambhir pushed forward to defend with a short stride. The ball may have even grazed the front pad before hitting the back pad, the impact was in line with off stump and that looked pretty plumb. That ball kept a bit low too. 60/2

35.6 absolute ripper! You cannot prepare for this. Maybe you would want your front foot moving a little more. But Santner's trajectory is flat and it puts the batsman in two minds. Then comes the turn. The big, hooping turn. Angled in on middle and off - the pace is fairly quick - and it had Pujara playing the angle, very nervously, and dupes him 100/3

147.6 that's the end of a monumental partnership. Rahane walks up to congratulate his skipper, most members of the New Zealand side are generous in their applause too. Wonder if cramps played a part in his dismissal. Coming back to the delivery, this was short and drifting in to middle and off, Kohli gets into a tangle as he looks to whip that past midwicket, but missed it altogether to make it a simple decision for umpire Bruce Oxenford. 465/4
159.1 that's the end of a superb Rahane knock. This was a nothing delivery. Length ball that had enough width, Rahane shapes to drive on the up, well away from the body, but can only get a thick edge that is taken by Watling, who dives low to his right to complete it. No sign of the declaration yet. Kohli is still in his blue training shirt, and munching away 504/5

46.6 has Guptill been run out at the non-strikers' end? He has! What an awful way to go. He was backing up, and having seen his partner drill a superb straight drive, he probably had the right to. But Ashwin reaches to his right, gets just enough of a deflection - only the tip of his ring finger met the ball - that made sure the ball didn't go to the boundary and instead hit the stumps 143/4

34.2 teasing little offbreak. Worse, it had masqueraded as a half-volley on the pads. Poor Latham thought he had a single for the taking, bringing his bat across his front pad and playing with a closed face. But the ball - a lot slower in pace, that was the key to the wicket - lobs up off the leading edge and Ashwin takes an absolute dolly of a catch 113/1
42.6 dragged on! He's played Ashwin's good-length balls off the back foot, not entirely a terrible ploy, but the problem arose when he went for the cut. A straight bat could have saved him, but the horizontal one simply made him feel more cramped and it presents the ball with the perfect opportunity to take the inside edge and trickle onto the stumps. Rare mistake from Williamson. 129/2
44.5 it's the straight one! Oh, wait. It turned just a tiny bit. Taylor was just playing too far inside the line. And he has this technique as well where he doesn't push too far forward and the bat comes down at an angle from gully. Ashwin, by pulling his length back, gets the outside edge and Rahane mops things up 135/3
48.1 off the thigh of the keeper to the first slip. Superb work from Rahane, diving to his right. Outstanding reflexes. The delivery wasn't too bad either. Drifted away from Ronchi, who had come forward expecting top block a good length ball and suddenly finding that he was playing inside the line. Fine edge, hitchhikes its way to India's vice-captain 143/5

86.2 hasn't it straightened too much? Umpire Dharmasena thinks not and raises the finger and Ashwin has his 20th five-wicket haul. He wrapped it up with a well flighted delivery that Neesham played all around with a sweep. Struck on the back thigh, but that back thigh was probably outside the line of off stump. Neesham went back to the dressing room, waited by the monitor to see the replay and then strode off disgusted 271/8
62.6 is there an argument that Watling was set up? He was made to lunge forward to a few slow, loopy deliveries. Now Jadeja gets one to land on a good length and the batsman, having cultivated a habit of pushing at the ball, does so again. This time he is nowhere near the pitch, feathers an edge. Rahane has to move to his left, does so quickly enough to get both hands to the ball and then controls it with a bit of a juggle. Brilliant that he wasn't distracted by Saha trying his best to grab at the ball; he was well within his right to, of course as the keeper. 196/6
78.6 how about that for a catch? The batsman was shaping for a cover drive, and for a leg slip to be alert enough to pick that up is simply super. Jadeja looped the ball up, and a littler wider to tempt Santner, the ball takes the inside edge, sneaks through the gate and ends up in Kohli's hands 248/7
88.2 seems to have dropped the catch coming back at him, but with the ball hitting the stumps could Patel be run out? Oh yes! Ashwin's pulled off a second of these. Some good work deceiving the batsman in flight, Henry drove at the ball, looking for the covers, ended up inside edging it. Ashwin was concentrating on the catch. Fumbles it, but is lucky enough that the ball went onto the stumps and Patel, backing up, couldn't put his bat down in time even though it was pushed behind the crease 289/9

90.2 Ashwin has six! shimmes down, looks to heave it towards midwicket, gets a top edge and Pujara takes the catch. A superb one at that, because the ball went so high. Backtracked from midwicket and pulled it off serenely 294/10

13.4 misunderstanding. Lazy running. Great fielding. It all began with a good ball too - Santner pushing it through on middle and getting the ball to straighten just enough that Vijay, pushing his bat out in front of his pads, gets an outside edge into the covers. Hared out and was halfway down by the time he realises Pujara was telling him to go back. Turns around, and seems a bit casual in trying to reach safety. No dive. There was one from Guptill though, moving to his left he took the ball with his right (dominant) hand and reverse flicked it to the keeper. Stunning. 34/1
29.6 looking for quick runs, Gambhir goes for the inside out drive and he had nailed it. Only problem though was the lack of elevation. Made the room for the shot, got the pitch to make sure he can power it. But when Guptill is in that region, you better make sure to hit it over him 110/2

39.6 was he struck in line? Umpire Oxenford says yes. It's a good length ball just outside off, Kohli opts to sweep because he wants runs. Misses the ball and is struck on the front pad. It's a very tight call. About half the ball is outside the line of off stump. But it's the shot again that may have tempted the decison. A bit like Neesham getting lbw to Ashwin with respect to impact, Patel's ball certainly would have hit the stumps 158/3

1.4 pinned in front of the stumps! A Yadav specialty. Pitched full, screams in, seems to almost pick up pace off the pitch. Actually, it only seems so because Latham was bringing his bat around the front pad. Makes him late on the shot. Makes the decision quite easy for umpire Dharmasena too. And Indore goes "Indiaaaaa, India. Indiaaaaaaa, India." Just magnify that by a factor of a million in your head 7/1
25.3 the pace... he's been beaten for pace! Jaddu spears in one of his arm balls on middle and leg, Guptill's front foot was on middle stump, his bat comes down beside it. Then has to work around it. By then the ball hits the knee-roll and umpire Dharmasena sends him on his way 112/6
10.6 big appeal for lbw, Williamson opened himself up for that by going deep in his crease and looks woeful when umpire Oxenford gives him out. It looked dicey. It was a tough decision, mostly in terms of adjudicating how much the ball was spinning. It ripped off a good length from outside off to pin Williamson in front of middle, and with him being so far back, there was not much distance to travel. All in all, a top decision 42/2

18.3 sweeps the wrong ball, and Ashwin waves bye-bye to him. It's slower through the air. It's too full for the shot. He should be driving at those, but hitting across the line like that, he's sabotaged himself 80/3

22.4 fooled him! And then messes up his stumps for good measure. It was pretty full delivery, but Ronchi was suckered into playing back because the trajectory was flat. Then just to make the batsman feel like the world is against him, it stays low too. 102/4
23.4 chipped it straight to short midwicket. Trap set, trap sprung! There were plenty of men in the leg side, just for this shot. Short leg. Leg slip and then Kohli, who was diving low to his right to pull this off 103/5

32.5 goes straight on, and poor Santner throws a 'how do you do that?' and then an 'is there no mercy in the world?' stare at the celebrating Ashwin. It's the proper offspinner, not even the undercutter. So the batsman was well within his right to expect it to turn. And it does, just not that much. Takes the inside edge, then the pad and onto the stumps. That's 10 in the Test for Ashwin, his 6th time doing so 136/7
34.1 now he's got a five-for in each innings! That was all a bit too easy. Tossed it up. Patel plays right across the line, trying a sweep while standing up. In effect, he ushered the ball onto his stumps 138/8
34.4 doesn't cost India much! Tossed up well wide of off stump, Henry goes for a slap over mid-off, but the ball dips. Henry can't reach the pitch and he mistimes the ball straight to mid-off instead 138/9
44.5 finishes it off, all by himself! Ashwin has a seventh - his best bowling in an innings, and in a Test match. Looped up to get him out of his crease and look for the drive. The ball dips on him though and it pops back. Watling throws his head down in disappointment. Coach Kumble is catching it all on camera, while the Indian dressing room explodes around him 153/10
