12.10pm Usman Khawaja, who led Australia's fight on the third day, was the first to go on the fourth, edging a back-foot force to the keeper. Voges and Ferguson then misjudged the bounce as Abbott and Rabada scythed through the middle order. It was Philander who set it up for them, nagging away on and around off, sending down five successive maidens. Abbott proceeded to wrap up the tail and seal South Africa's third series win in a row in Australia.

Steven Smith had blocked, blocked.... and took 40 minutes to score on the fourth morning. Having watched 13 dismissals fall around him across two innings, Smith himself edged behind for 31. Midday: Kyle Abbott, coming in for the injured Steyn, is the Player of the Match: I have been waiting for the opportunity and I made the most. When I get the opportunity, I just bowl my heart out. With the sun not coming out, always thought there was something in the pitch. Top of off with the odd bouncer [is the plan]. We go into each series knowing the strengths and weakness of the batsmen.

Steven Smith: For us, it was just about trying to fight and try to bat for the day. If we bat for the day, we could have got 280 or 300. South Africa hit good areas and I don't think I scored for the first 11 overs in the day. They challenged our defences and we have to find a way to be resilient and find a way to stay in the middle, Whether it's spinning, seaming or swinging, we will have to find a way to be successful . Credit to South Africa, the way they bowled was magnificent. Stick with us, we are working hard, and we will have to be a little bit more resilient. We have been outplayed in the first two Tests, we have lost the last five Test matches. We will have to play better cricket in Adelaide. We will have to find ways to get this Australian team over the line. This series is gone now. We're going to work hard and play a lot better cricket in Adelaide.

Faf du Plessis: Sure, it's a special performance. Yesterday we were exceptional, we made sure we were relentless. I am so happy for Abbott, he sits out most of the time with the great bowlers we have. I am chuffed he got a six-for and won a massive game of cricket for us. 11.55am The South African players get together and savour the moment. They have now wrapped up their third straight Test series win in Australia. South Africa's seamers produced a masterclass on swing and seam on the fourth morning, exposing Australia's weak defensive technique again. In the first innings, Australia lost 10 for 85, now they have lost 8 for 32. The hosts have been battered inside seven sessions.

Jmani: "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? They were 5 down and I am back from the grocery store to see them go down like this?"

Stiaan: "Interesting: not one wicket came off a spinner..."

Ben: "Everyone is focusing on Australia frequent batting collapses. This is true but the bowlers are getting away with murder. The SA bowlers gave a masterclass in both Perth and Hobart.....they were bowling grenades. The Aussies by comparison were unable to extract genuine swing or seam movement, as well and appropriate length and bounce. There is a sameness to the Aussie attack, and this has been evident for about 12 months I reckon. Well done SA. Bring back the Marshes?"
