The Chicago Bulls acquired backup point guard Cameron Payne as part of a multiplayer trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Feb. 23. Apparently, the Bulls knew early on that Payne might just be a fringe roster player.

Rumor Central

"We knew the second practice that he couldn't play at [an NBA] level," a source told the Chicago Sun-Times. "The only reason it took two practices was because we thought maybe it was nerves in the first one."

Payne is scheduled to have surgery to repair his fractured right foot, and he will be out for several months. With this injury, Chicago's already bloated backcourt and Payne's questionable NBA skills, the Bulls might just waive him at some point by Oct. 16, which is the final day to set the rosters for the start of the NBA regular season on Oct. 17.

Payne, the No. 14 selection in the 2015 NBA draft by the Thunder, made 11 appearances with the Bulls in 2016-17 and averaged 4.9 points, 1.4 assists and 1.5 rebounds.
