Prep Mania Profile: Kevin Meicher

Kevin Meicher, Middleton High School

Year: Senior.

Sports: Football, wrestling.

Sports highlights: Kevin is in his third varsity season in football and is a two-time letterwinner and two-year starter competing at defensive back, wide receiver, and punt/kick returner. He was selected as a team captain his senior year. As a junior, he earned All-Big Eight Conference honorable mention honors as a defensive back with 39 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, returning one for a touchdowns. He led the Big Eight Conference with 405 punt return yards, averaging 28.9 yards per return and scoring two touchdowns.

He is a three-time letterwinner, three-time state placewinner and two-time team captain in wrestling, winning a WIAA Division 1 individual state tournament title at 126 pounds as a freshman. As a junior, he won Big Eight Conference, regional and sectional titles and finished fourth at state at 152 pounds with a 46-2 record. His sophomore season, he was a conference runner-up, regional champion, sectional runner-up and state runner-up at 138 pounds with a 46-5 record. He finished 43-3 as a freshman at 126 pounds, winning conference, regional, sectional and state titles.

Pre-game ritual or superstition: Sprinkle sugar in my cleats and drink an Arnold Palmer.

Cumulative GPA: 3.9.

Favorite subject/class: Physics.

Favorite teacher: Mr. Rogeberg and Mr. Simon.

Competing in sports has taught me: You get out what you put in. Hard work does pay off.

Three words to describe me are: Competitive, hard-working, respectful.

I got my start in sports: My parents introduced me to a lot of sports at an early age, and I chose the ones I loved the most.

I wish I could play: Water polo.

My most memorable moments in sports: Winning an individual state championship my freshman year in wrestling.

I like about high school sports: Learning lessons on and off the field and making memories that will last a lifetime with teammates and friends.

I enjoy playing football because: Nothing is better than competing under the lights with your best friends and the support of a great community.

Advice: “Have the time of your life, train as hard in the classroom as you do on the field, and be grateful to those that help you. Take ownership of your mistakes, it’s the best way to learn. You only have four years in high school so make the most of it.”

My role models are: My parents, Kevin Sr. and Linette.

My family also includes: My sister, Kaelin, and our dogs, Max, Penny and Finn.

Dream date: Skydiving with Blake Lively.

Dream gift: A yacht.

Preferred brand of shoe: Adidas.

My perfect day: Wake up on a Friday with no school, get a workout in followed by a Chick-Fil-A breakfast, then spend the rest of the day boating on the lake with friends and family before playing a game of football under the lights.

I like to read: Autobiographies.

This and that: Member of National Honor Society and Cardinal Leadership Council … volunteered at First United Methodist food pantry, mentor to youth football players and wrestlers through camps and practices … worked part-time at Sprecher’s Restaurant and Pub … currently working part-time at Prima Management … participated at Advance Wrestling since sixth grade … member of USA Wrestling and has competed at Fargo Junior Nationals the past four years. He posted a 5-2 record in freestyle competition at 152 pounds this summer.

Hobbies: Anything outdoors, hanging with friends, and attending athletic events.

Post-high school plans: Attend a four-year college to study Business and hopefully continue my athletic career.

Did you know? When I was five years old, I taught myself to ride a bike in 10 minutes.
