Stanley Pringle back for another national tour of duty

Stanley Pringle is looking forward to flying to Jakarta, Indonesia along with the rest of the Philippine men's basketball team on Sunday.

The Filipino-American guard admitted it has been several years since he last set foot in Jakarta or since he played for two seasons with the Indonesia Warriors in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

The NorthPort playmaker said he is also excited to reconnect with some old friends in the capital city of Indonesia as well as touch base with some local fans there.

"Definitely there's some fans there. There are old teammates that I'm gonna connect with. It's gonna be nice because I haven't been there since the ABL," Pringle shared to ESPN5.

The former Penn State standout starred for Indonesia in the 2012 ABL season, leading the Warriors to a 2-1 finals triumph over the San Miguel Beermen en route to capturing the regional basketball crown.

Pringle helped the Warriors make a return trip to the finals the following season, facing the Beermen once again. But the result was different in 2013 as Indonesia got swept in the championship round by the Asi Taulava-led San Miguel squad.

The 31-year-old Pringle has since saw success in the Philippines, becoming the top overall pick in the PBA Draft in 2014, winning Rookie of the Year honors and earning four All-Star stints.

More than his PBA accomplishments, the opportunity to represent the Philippines in the Asian Games is more important for Pringle.

The shifty point guard said he's happy to be selected by Guiao as part of the national team, a good follow-up after his debut for the Philippines in the 2018 FIBA 3X3 World Cup in Bocaue, Bulacan in June.

"It's great to represent the country. It's a duty call like the 3x3, and it's like putting the (national) team in a position to win," the veteran PBA star shared.

"It's the biggest thing, giving it your all. You always gonna do that with all the fans and all the support and as you step on the court and wear that jersey and giving 100 percent," he added.

Although the Philippine team under Guiao has only been together for a week, Pringle expects everyone to be ready when the basketball competition in the Asian Games begins in a few days.

"Definitely I expect all to play hard, just like the 3x3. I expect everybody to give their best, play together as a team and hope for the best, and we'll be ready," he promised.
