Defending champion P V Sindhu defeated Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon 21-13 21-15 in the semi-final of India Open Super 500 in New Delhi on Saturday. She will face World No 11 American Beiwen Zhang in the final on Sunday.

Sindhu's fast-paced rallies, acute-angled returns and better reach helped her dominate the match. Ratchanok struggled with her returns, with most of her shots going wide and long, or hitting the net.

After trailing 1-3 initially, Sindhu grabbed 10 straight points to go 11-3 to take control of the first game. The second game started out tight, with the scores tied at 6-6. But once again Sindhu moved ahead using her drop shots and powerful smash to go 11-7. Intanon narrowed the deficit to 10 -12 and then 11-13 but Sindhu soon regained control, making the most of her opponent's errors.

Earlier in the day, India's Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy lost 16-21 19-21 against the fifth seeded Danish pair of Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen in the mixed doubles semi-final.
