Sindhu, Sameer win Syed Modi GP

P V Sindhu and Sameer Verma won the women's and men's singles titles at the USD 120,000 Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow on Sunday.

Top seed Sindhu defeated Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska 21-13, 21-14 in a match that lasted 30 minutes. Sameer -- who had previously reached the finals of Hong Kong Super Series last year -- defeated compatriot B Sai Praneeth 21-19, 21-16 in a 44-minute final.

Second seeds Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy also won their maiden GP Gold title in the mixed doubles event after beating Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy 22-20, 21-10, seeded seventh.

In the women's doubles final, however, Ponappa and Sikki Reddy went down 16-21, 18-21 to top seeds Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen to settle for the runners-up title. The match lasted 38 minutes.

Top seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen from Denmark won the men's doubles title after defeating Lu Ching Yao and Yang Po Han from Chinese Taipei 21-14, 21-15.
