Gary Ablett is due to play his 302nd AFL match this weekend - after his father, Gary senior, played 248 games for Hawthorn and Geelong - giving the pair a grand total of 550 father-son games.
This will put Team Ablett at No.5 on the list of most games by a father-son pair, and fast closing in on the Silvagnis, Sergio and Stephen, who are in fourth place on 551 games.
Ken and Dustin Fletcher hold the AFL record (which may never be broken) of 664 games - comprising 264 for Ken and 400 for Dustin), while the Tucks, Michael and Shane, are on 599 games and the Clokes, David and Travis, are in third place on 585.
It appears increasingly likely that Gary junior, 33, will get his wish later this season and be traded back to Geelong for the twilight years of his glittering career.
And if the Cats do manage to secure one of their (former) favourite sons, they won't be getting a clapped-out old hack - but a player who still ranks among the elite midfielders in the competition.
Because he's playing at Gold Coast, it's easy to forget how good he still is. Season 2017 has been far from his best yet Ablett ranks second in the AFL for total disposals and inside-50s, and third for clearances and total kicks.
Then you look at this stat, and you realise that a Geelong midfield comprising Selwood, Dangerfield and Ablett in 2018 might be well nigh unbeatable:

The Little Master added to that tally against Collingwood at the weekend, putting on a clinic with his 41 touches, eight marks and six tackles.
**** In keeping with the madcap, topsy-turvy season, the weekend provided all manner of weird and wonderful trivia and tidbits:
- Eight of Carlton's 22 players wore long sleeves at a chilly MCG on Sunday, surely a modern-day record (although we're not quite sure how to verify this).
- In that same game, the two captains who squared off at the opening coin toss shared the same surname - Bob and Marc Murphy. The last time that happened was in 2013 when Campbell Brown (who filled in as Gold Coast skipper for one game) came up against Brisbane's Jonathan Brown.
- The youngest and oldest players in a V/AFL round were teammates (18 year-old Lewis Young lining up alongside the very same Bob Murphy, 35, for the Bulldogs). The last time this happened was in 2014 when debutant Kayne Turner played for the Kangaroos alongside football's Benjamin Button, Brent Harvey.
- Not many players have an unbeaten record against Hawthorn's four-premiership, 300-game legend, Luke Hodge. Former Brisbane captain Michael Voss is one - with a 6-0 win-loss record against Hodge - and Geelong's Daniel Menzel joined him on that scoreline at the weekend when the Cats sneaked home by less than a goal.
- In the 24 matches between Geelong and Hawthorn since 2007, nine have been decided by less than a goal; five others decided by less than two goals.
- Patrick Dangerfield was, of course, the difference between the two teams on Saturday, kicking 5.6 and being adjudged by most as BOG, but - oddly - it was a performance which featured his fewest number of disposals in a Geelong jumper - 20.
