If Chivas and Club America were somehow allowed to merge their rosters, what would a "superteam" from both sides look like? After analyzing each player from either squad, here is the best XI from the two sides that are set to face this Sunday at the Clasico Nacional.
Goalkeeper: Agustin Marchesin (Club America)
This one was fairly easy. In comparison to Chivas starter Raul Gudino, Marchesin has had more shutouts, saves and an overall better season. On paper, the 30-year-old Argentine is far superior when it comes to talent as well.
Right-back: Josecarlos Van Rankin (Chivas)
Although Club America's Paul Aguilar would be the obvious answer here, the player seems to be in a gradual decline. Van Rankin, on the other hand, has exceeded expectations for Chivas this season with solid defensive performances and has even added two goals in his first 10 games.
Central defender: Edson Alvarez (Club America)
In spite of his recent questionable performances, which includes a red card last week, Alvarez continues to be a vital figure for Club America at just 20 years of age. Defensive interceptions aside, Alvarez has also collected more passes in the 2018 Apertura than any of his teammates.
Central defender: Jair Pereira (Chivas)
Emanuel Aguilera? Bruno Valdez? Both of the Club America players were close, but Pereira was able to just sneak by them thanks to his distribution and aggression in defense. A defensive partnership between (a healthy) Pereira and Alvarez would easily be one of the best in the league.
Left-back: Jorge Sanchez (Club America)
Whether it be on the right or left flank, there's something intriguing about the 20-year-old full-back who has thrived with Club America. Sanchez's stock rose significantly earlier this month after he scored a golazo against Morelia.
Right midfielder: Isaac Brizuela (Chivas)
The 28-year-old has emerged as one of the bright lights in an average season for Chivas. Brizuela, who can easily switch to the left wing if needed, has taken charge in the attack with a goal and three assists. His ability to track back and defend shouldn't be overlooked either.
Central midfielder: Mateus Uribe (Club America)
Despite the fact that fans have criticized a few of his performances, there's no way of ignoring Uribe's three goals and two assists for Club America. At his best, few opposing midfielders and defenders are able to keep up with the highly-energetic Colombian who has an eye for accurate passing.
Central Midfielder: Guido Rodriguez (Club America)
A player who does the work of two defensive midfielders. Rodriguez is an invaluable starter who has not only found the back of the net twice this season, but has also regularly helped Las Aguilas regain possession in the middle of the field.
Left midfielder: Andres Ibarguen (Club America)
The pacey playmaker is crucial in the final third for America. Ibarguen has stepped up this season scoring one goal, laying on two assists and creating a plethora of dangerous opportunities in attack. Similar to Chivas' Brizuela, the Colombian is also capable of playing either on the left or right flank.
Striker: Oribe Peralta (Club America)
The veteran can't stop scoring. Although Peralta is now 34 years old, the Mexican has still been able to amass a total of five goals and one assist for Club America. There seems to be no way of halting the goal tally from the player who remains lethal in front of net.
Striker: Angel Zaldivar (Chivas)
Zaldivar isn't the most exciting option, but his numbers don't lie. When looking at Chivas and Club America players, only Peralta has found the back of the net more often than the striker. With four goals in hand, Zaldivar is a worthy inclusion in the joint-best XI.
