Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr says Arsene Wenger handled reports of Alex Iwobi's disciplinary issues 'like a father' and says he is in regular contact with the Arsenal coach.

Iwobi, 21, was reportedly at a party 48 hours to an Arsenal match, and Wenger acknowledged that the behaviour was unacceptable and that the forward would be fined for partying so close to game day.

"I spoke to Arsene about it and I like the way he handled it. He did it like a father, inside the house and after, he played him in the next game. He is a young boy, and young boys make mistakes sometimes," Rohr told KweséESPN, adding that he maintains contact not just with Wenger, but also with other coaches at clubs where his players play.

"I speak to all of them and we have a good relationship because we want to see the players play at a high level and train at a high level to stay fit.

"When we gather, we cannot make them fit, it is only when they are their clubs that they can be fit and we also send trainers to their clubs to help them with fitness.

Rohr also said he is pleased with the World Cup training programme announced by the NFF on Wednesday as he prepares to lead Nigeria to this summer's World Cup in Russia.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick announced a six-match series of friendly internationals for the Super Eagles, with all but one match confirmed, including scrimmages with Poland, Serbia, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and England.

The programme of activities includes a three-phase camp beginning with Phase 1 in Abuja in late May, Phase 2 in Austria, and the final phase at the team's World Cup base in Yessentuki, Russia.

"This is a very good plan," Rohr told KweséESPN. "It is the kind of plan you see with countries in Europe or anywhere in the world and I am very happy."

The German added that he made significant input into the programme, and explained why.

"It will be good preparations for the players. Serbia and Czech play like Croatia, and we will be sending scouts to watch Iceland. We have already beaten Argentina, but we must remain humble because beating them in a friendly does not mean we can beat them at the World Cup.

"We will also like to have the fans to see the team at home before they go, that is why we play one game in Nigeria."
