Brighton have 'registered' interest in Liverpool's Joe Gomez - Chris Hughton

Brighton manager Chris Hughton says he is interested in taking Joe Gomez on loan from Liverpool.

The Premier League newcomers would like to sign Gomez, 20, on a season-long loan and have "registered" their interest with Liverpool, according to Hughton.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will take a look at the majority of the club's youngsters throughout preseason before deciding whether to sanction loan moves.

"We've registered our interest but he's not our player. It will be up to Liverpool," Hughton told The Argus. "I'd like to think we are very much in the running."

Last season saw Gomez return to action after a 13-month layoff following a number of serious injuries, making three first-team appearances for Liverpool in total.

The versatile defender joined Liverpool from Charlton in the summer of 2015 for £3.5 million.

Meanwhile, another Liverpool youngster who could leave the club on a temporary basis is 18-year-old Kamil Grabara.

The goalkeeper's agent, Bartlomiej Bolek, told ESPN FC last week that a loan move was a possibility this summer.

"We will decide together with the club what is best for him for next season -- to stay in Liverpool, do training with the first team and play with the under-23s or go on loan," Bolek said. "We need the time to figure out that, to talk with the club and to find the best way for Kamil."
