South African Premier Soccer League side Orlando Pirates have signed experienced goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Sandilands arrives from African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, where he had largely been kept on the bench by Ugandan Denis Onyango and Zambia international Kennedy Mweene.

The 33-year-old Sandilands will enter his 13th season in the South African top-flight having previously played for Platinum Stars as well.

He is expected to be drafted straight into the first team in a position that has been a problem for Pirates in the last few seasons.

None of their current glovemen -- Brighton Mhlongo, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Jackson Mabokgwane -- have been convincing enough to retain the number one jersey for a long period.

Sandilands, who has five international caps, was in goal for Sundowns when they won the CAF Champions League against Zamalek last October. He came off the bench in the second leg of the final after an injury to Onyango.
