CECAFA has suspended Gor Mahia for two years - Musonye

The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has suspended Kenya Premier League champions, Gor Mahia FC for two years.

"The CECAFA Executive decided on Friday night after the climax of the CECAFA Kagame Club Championship in Tanzania to suspend Gor Mahia FC for indiscipline exhibited during the tournament," Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General told KweséESPN on Sunday.

"They refused to use the dressing room during the semifinal match against Azam FC and opted to change in the corridors," said Musonye.

"This was a big shame because several people saw them changing in the corridors. They also refused to pick their bronze medals during the awards ceremony," said Musonye.

"The executive Committee decided that Gor Mahia FC serve a two-year suspension from all the regional tournaments so that they can learn a lesson.

"We cannot tolerate this kind of behavior," he added.

Gor Mahia FC Chief Executive Officer Lordvick Aduda told KweséESPN that they are investigating the behavior of their team during the CECAFA Kagame Cup.

"We cannot tolerate lack of discipline among players in the team. The Club management is already in the process of establishing the root cause of that embarrassing incident," Aduda told KweséESPN

Gor Mahia FC finished third in the regional tournament after they defeated Zanzibar's Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi (JKU) 2-0.

Last Friday, Tanzania's Azam FC retained the title after a hard fought 2-1 win over arch-rivals Simba SC in the final played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The winners bagged US$30,000, the runners-up US20,000 and the third placed US$10,000.
