So the first game in the Tri-series has ended as a bit of a damp squib, which is a shame because it was well poised with both teams still in it.  Although what can you do about the weather eh? So both teams get two points each for the washout. Luckily we will not have long to wait until the next game in the series, when New Zealand will be coming to Malahide to play Ireland. So please join me then. Thanks for following my commentary today, this is Justin Smyth saying good evening from a very soggy Malahide.

4:50 pm: Its very bad news I'm afraid. We have just seen the two captains shake hands and the game has been called off. There has just been too much rain and it just hasn't stopped.

4:40 pm:I'm sure that this isn't going to look good but they have just moved the presentation stand over to the media tent. Maybe they are just trying to save time for later. Or maybe they know something that we don't? Yes. It's still raining
.

4:00 pm: Another 30 minutes lost and yes you've guessed it. It's still raining. The DJ is playing "I'm in the mood for Love". Not sure that's what most people in the ground are feeling at the minute

The umpires have been out in the middle and have confirmed that the cut off point to start again is 6:10 pm. Once the rain has stopped they reckon its going to take 45 mins to get the ground ready for play again. The only thing is the rain has to stop first.

3:30 pm: Well the good news is that the heavy rain has gone and now it's just some drizzle that for some reason just will not stop. The covers are still on the square. We have just had an announcement through the P.A at the ground that they have no news to bring us. Not much help there then! It does look a bit brighter, although until the water stops falling from the sky

2:50 pm: Still no change in the update from the ground I'm afraid. The rain is showing signs of slowing and it has got a lot brighter. The Umpires have had a little trip around the outfield and the blotter has been going up and down on the covers. Still no sign of the players yet though.

2:15 pm: Bad news I'm afraid, its continued to rain heavily since the Umpires took the players off. It's still raining now and most of the spectators have long since run for cover. The rain was quite heavy as well and even when it does stop it looks like it might take a while for the ground to be ready for play again. We will have started losing time here and to be fair I think that we have probably seen the end of Bangladesh batting today. Just too much time will have been lost to complete their innings. So it looks like we might have to get our friends Duckworth, Lewis and Stern involved today.....

Oh what a shame, the rain has just started coming down even harder and the umpires are calling for the covers. It was really only going to be a matter of time as the clouds had steadily got darker and darker. There is quite a strong breeze across the ground so hopefully we won't be off for long. Fingers crossed. I'll keep you informed with any changes.
